Policeman jailed 8 months for knocking out student's tooth

PC Andrew Ott, a 36-year-old British policeman, was in tears as a Judge sentenced him to six months in prison for knocking out an unarmed students tooth in the 2010 London students’ protests.

Ott was accused of using his riot shield to hit a Royal Holloway student, William Horner, during the protest at Parliament Square in central London.

The 36-year-old policeman cried as Judge Jeffrey Pegden at a Southwark crown court sentenced him on Wednesday.

Judge Jeffery told him he had abused his power as a police officer.

“This offence was committed in a sterile area, in relative darkness, when you had the victim cornered and no violence was necessary at all," Judge Jeffery said.

"An extremely serious aggravating factor is your abuse of power as a police officer.

“You hit him with a full-force blow to his face with your shield.

"That was wholly gratuitous, unnecessary violence, and I have considered the stress on William Horner over the last few years.”

He convicted Ott of one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but cleared of perverting the course of justice, The Guardian UK reports.

Student Pulse gathered that Ott had chased the student to a corner and hit him as he tried to scale a fence.

He was also captured on his personal recording device saying “I’ve had enough of these cunts, I just fucking hit him."

Ott has served as a police officer since 2003 and may also be dismissed from the force.
