Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, has said the continuous captivity of the Chibok schoolgirls and the refugee situation caused by the Boko Haram insurgency has left him with less than 4 hours of sleep a day.
I hardly sleep 4 hrs daily, but we're "equal to the task" — Borno gov
Governor Shettimma of Borno says the Boko Haram insurgency and the plight of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls have denied him sleep, adding that his government will handle the situation.
Speaking at a live television media chat in Maiduguri, the governor said the plight of the Chibok schoolgirls, abducted since last April, is of paramount importance to him.
I hardly get four hours of sleep each day, because of the problems that confront us," he said.
"The Chibok girls are still missing; the challenges are still not over. We have over million refugees in the city of Maiduguri alone. We have 276, 000 registered refugees in over 20 IDP camps within Maiduguri while thousands more are taking shelter with families, and friends..
Shettima stated however that the situation will be dealt with.
"So the challenges are daunting, but I want to assure you that we are equal to the task.
"We are willing to marshal whatever resources we have.
"We are determined, we are focused and absolutely committed to the transformation of our state in spite the challenges confronting us."
Speaking recently, the National President of the Nigeria Union Teachers (NUT), Comrade Michael Olukoya, said the Nigerian government must intensify efforts towards the rescue of the abducted Chibok girls because their abductors "would have been assaulted beyond proportion."
