A lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Kabir Akinyemi, has clinched the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Award for scientists from low-income countries.

"The university’s management on behalf of the entire staff, students and the university community congratulates the award recipient on this monumental feat," it said.
This is contained in the latest edition of the LASU Bulletin, given to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
The bulletin said that Akinyemi of the Microbiology Department of LASU was among eight scientists selected by the foundation, based on their impactful research in Anti-microbial Agents and Chemotherapy.
It said that the award was a support for Inter-Science Conference in Anti-microbial Agents and Chemotherapy for scientists from low-income countries.
The bulletin said that the award had brought glory to LASU as the award was globally competitive.
Akinyemi is currently the Dean of Students Affairs and the first former student of LASU to win such award.
