A tanker laden with diesel products rammed into a Volkswagen car and sources say eight people lost their lives, including a mother, her baby, a student and the driver of the car.
Reports say the accident occurred along the Otukpa - Ogbokolo road in Okpokwu LGA of the state on Sunday evening.
A tanker laden with diesel products rammed into a Volkswagen car, killing all the occupants.
A resident of the area who spoke to the press said rescue was delayed because officers of the Benue Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had no towing van to lift the tanker off the crushed car and had to get one all the way from Enugu state.
"The Officers of the FRSC really tried their best; they had to keep vigil at the accident spot in Odoba till on Monday morning when they were able to get a towing van from Enugu State to remove the tanker from the bodies of the victims which were crushed beyond recognition," he said.
"Can you imagine the FRSC don’t have such equipment in Benue State”.
Meanwhile, a who identified his daughter's corpse among the victims, says she was thought to be in school having left the family home three days before the incident.
“We all believed she was in school since on Thursday. What was she doing in Otukpa for the past 3 days? Why is her corpse lying amongst those accidents victims here?” he wailed.
Though no official casualty figures have been released, community sources say eight people lost their lives, including the mother, her baby, a student and the driver of the car.
