The campaign was launched with a public lecture, which was chaired by the ex-governor of Kaduna State, Ramalan Yero.

He said, “This campaign is against the creation and the spread of fake news among Nigerians, especially Youths and students who are more prone to the hazards on the social media

“Fake news gives rooms for unethical journalism and sensationalism that could lead to the destruction of life and properties as we are living witness to its havoc elsewhere across the globe.”

Students urged to use social media positively

There have been calls on students to make use of the social media positively.

In April 2018, the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Prof Yahuza Bello, has advised Nigerian students to promote folklores on social media.
