Dr. Muhammad Kabiru Aliyu has become the first Professor of Archaeology at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria after working at the institution for 27 years.
ASUU chairman becomes ABU's first Professor of Archaeology
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has made Dr. Muhammad Kabiru Aliyu its first Professor of Archaeology in his 27th year working with the institution.
Aliyu, who is institution’s branch chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), was promoted to the rank of Professor of Archaeology by the ABU Senate.
The newly promoted Professor started working with the university as a Graduate Assistant in 1988, rising to the rank of Associate Professor in 2009 and now Professor, effective from 2012.
Aliyu was twice appointed as the Head of Department (HOD) of Archaeology, first in 2013 for a two-year term and in February 2015.
He was also Deputy Dean of Students between 2008 and 2012.
gathered Prof. Aliyu started his tertiary academic pursuit at ABU, obtaining a degree in Archaeology in 1986, before he proceeded to the University of Ibadan (UI) where he obtained a master in Archaeology and Anthropology in 1991 and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) where he got his PhD in Archaeology and Tourism.
