Egypt's Ain Shams University also clinched the 10th spot

Journals Consortium however stated that the rankings are based only on research publications.

"This ranking is based on research publications and citations from the last five years (2010 to 2014) as well as visibility on the internet," the organization stated on its website.

UI scored a total of 41.22 points, just 3.8 points shy of number one University of Cape Town which had 45.02 points.

Founded on 17 November 1948, UI is the oldest and one of Nigeria’s most prestigious universities.
