AOCOED lecturers say their school is ready to become university

The College lecturers said they have been able to convince Ambode to upgrade AOCOED to University of Education.

The University workers, comprising of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education in Nigeria (SSUCOEN), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) appealed to the Governor to grant their request.

While addressing journalists at COEASU secretariat, Michael Avosetinyen, Chairman of the union said the management of the institution has been yearning for the upgrade of the college to a university and has been able to convince the governor that university of education is now the trend.

He said,  “When the college management conveyed the good news message of government’s plan to transmute the college into a university to our community, it was expectedly received with enthusiasm. Our agitation for the university status is equally based on the fact that the college may witness mass exodus of its Ph.D holders and best hands that are trained with the state funds into various universities.

“We are fully prepared in terms of infrastructure, personnel, facilities, community relation, research and faculties to attain a university status. And so for creativity, innovation, for the sake of positive productivity, high demand for university education by the poor masses, history and posterity, all AOCOED workers and good people of our community are anxiously waiting for the reality of the proposed Adeniran Ogunsanya University of Education by the government before June when AOCOED will be 60 years of age.”

Recall that on Sunday, March 25, Pulse reported that Lagos State Government is reportedly planning to upgrade Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, (AOCOED) to a university.
