We'll kill PDP 'drug baron' candidate’s Senatorial bid — Youth

"We will not sit back and watch criminals and drug barons being elected into public offices, let alone the parliament," the youth say.

In a statement issued by the group's Executive Secretary, Joy Ifah, and Southwest Coordinator, Aderemi Adekunle, the group said the PDP was wrong to give Kashamu its senatorial ticket for Ogun East.

According to them, Kashamu, who is the chairman of the party’s Mobilisation Committee for Southwest, should not have gotten he ticket, alleging that he is wanted by the United States government over drug trafficking charges.

"As enlightened youths who are committed to the progress and development of this country, we will not sit back and watch criminals and drug barons being elected into public offices, let alone the parliament which is expected to make laws that will foster growth and advancement, " the statement read.

They therefore vowed to resist his candidacy and mobilize the youth of the region against him.

"Posterity will not forgive us if we let the likes of Prince Buruji Kashamu get into public offices just so they can continue to escape justice. Kashamu should first go and clear his name in the US before contemplating occupying any public office. We are a coalition of youth groups, and we are going to mobilise not only youths in Ogun East senatorial, but the entire Southwest youths against him."

In 2013, former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a letter to President Goodluck Jonathan rejected Kashamu's candidacy, called him "a criminal" and threatened to leave the party if it is not revered.
