Public tertiary education in Nigeria is plagued with lack of funds, poor infrastructure,  students unrest and incessant strike actions that often disrupt academic calendars.

These and many other issues are the reasons why parents who have the means choose to send their children to private universities, where the system is believed to be a lot better.

The first set of private universities in Nigeria emerged in 1999  and 19 years after, the country has got over 40 private tertiary institutions with more springing up.

Here are some of the most expensive universities in Nigeria and their tuition fees.

1. Igbinedion University

Located in Okada, Edo state, Igbinedion University is the first private tertiary institution in Nigeria. The institution is owned by the Igbinedion royal family of Benin Kingdom and its tuition fees range from N715,000 to N3,000,000 for the 2018/2018 academic session.

2. Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti

 

Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, (ABUAD) is one of the few private universities in Nigeria that is not owned or financed by a religious group.

It was established in 2009 by a renowned lawyer and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Afe Babalola. In the 2017/2018 academic session, the university has its tuition fees ranging from N872,000 to N1,747,000.

3. Babcock University

This university was established by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in  1959 as Adventist College of West Africa (ACWA) but got accreditation in 1999. The school is located in Ilishan Remo, Ogun State. Depending on the course, the tuition fee is between N600,000 and N992,300.
