11 things you should know about out-going VC and his tenure

In the next few days, the VC's office will be occupied by another professor to steer the affairs of the institution for another five years.
The Valedictory Conference has held already and by mid-November UNILAG community will be referring to Prof Rahamon Adisa Bello as the former Vice Chancellor of the institution.
So, before we throw a party for Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe to welcome him to the 11th floor, here are 11 things to know and remember about the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos.
1. Prof. Abdulrahman Bello is the 11th Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos. He was appointed on Sunday, November 11, 2012.
2. Ten years before his appointment as the Vice Chancellor, UNILAG authorities had banned unionism in the school. In 2015, Bello's tenure saw to the restoration of the ban.
3. The VC who hailed from Iboro in Ogun state graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1974 and observed his NYSC service with the then North-Eastern State Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Maiduguri.
4. The outgoing VC became a staff member of the prestigious University in 1977 when he was appointed as an Assistant Lecturer in Chemical Engineering.
5. He became the Head of Department of Chemical Engineering between 1999 and 2002.
6. He became a Professor of Chemical Engineering in 1998
7. According to him, the University has graduated a total of 50, 785 students in the last five years of his administration.
8. His tenure produces 188 professors. He said this at the Valedictory Conference that 104 professors out of the total 292 the institution has produced were appointed in the last five years.
9. He also made efforts to Internationalize the university’s programmes by signing MoU with the University of West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica.
10. Professor Rahamon Bello is married with four children and all of them are alumni of UNILAG.
