Your past is NOT more powerful than our Father in Heaven
No, I am not a pastor or minister or anything like that. What I am is a growing believer moved to share my discoveries about God, and this thing called life with you.
Are you embarrassed or ashamed? Do you feel like your past has ruined everything and there is absolutely nothing that can be done to make things better?
I'm here today to tell you to calm down because you are certainly not that powerful.
If there is one thing that the we can all learn from the Bible, it is that God uses the most broken of all, people the world would condemn (Luke 5:32). Why? So, that He can show us that we are not that powerful, and to glorify His name.
Let's look at King David. The Bible calls him a man after God's heart (Acts 13:22). Does this mean he was perfect? Absolutely not. He was an adulterer and a murderer. By the world's standards, he deserved to be condemned, probably thrown into a jail.
So, what made him so special, why did God love him so much? Because he had unwavering faith in His creator (1 Samuel 17:37), he loved following God's will (Psalm 119:47–48), he always thanked God no matter what (Psalm 26:6–7), when he sinned, he admitted and asked for forgiveness with a truly repentant heart (Psalm 51.)
David was not loved because he has perfect, far from it. He was loved because he had steadfast faith in God, which he demonstrated (Psalm 27:1), and was committed to following God (Psalm 119:34). Whenever he sinned, he did not allow it to have so much power over him, rather he went to His Father and begged for mercy.
We have to learn from David and stop giving our past so much power. Yes, we have sinned, we have done things we shouldn't have. Does this mean we should stay in the sin, let guilt and shame turn us away from God? No.
What do you do when you fall? Do you lie down in the dirt, crying that you are dirty or do you stand, clean yourself and avoid that spot? Let us do the same with our sins and past.
God is way more powerful than your past could possibly be. So, relax and have faith in Him (Hebrews 10:38-39).

Stop looking back (Luke 17:32), stop letting your past manipulate you into staying there (Isaiah 43:18), rather turn to him and watch Him cleanse you and make you whole (Philippians 3:13-14).
Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Isaiah 61:3 adds, “… to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.”
Take your past to Him, confess your sins (1 John 1:19) and watch Him turn it into purpose(Jeremiah 29:11).
