Zuma Claims 67 South Africans Were Killed

But official reports from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as at Tuesday night says the death toll had risen to 63 and 131 people rescued alive

There are indications that more people may have died in the collapsed building at the premises of the T.B. Joshua owned Synagogue Church of All Nations last Friday, September 12.

Reports from the Nation newspapers have it that South Africa’s President, Jacob Zuma, announced that 67 of its citizens were killed in the incident.

Zuma said in statement.

But official reports from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as at Tuesday night say the death toll had risen to 63 and 131 people rescued alive.

At least five South African church tour groups were at the Synagogue at the time of the collapse, according to officials.

Zuma said he had ordered government departments to help family members get to Nigeria to identify the bodies of their loved ones, and bring back the remains as soon as possible.
