A 50-year-old woman, Mrs. Funmilayo Owodunni, was on Sunday, October 26, killed while she was returning from church by a reckless driver.

Mrs. Funmilayo Owodunni was knocked down by a Volkswagen Vangon bus while she was returning home from church. She died 11 days later in a hospital.

Mrs. Funmilayo Owodunni died after a Volkswagen Vanagon bus reportedly rammed into her as she was returning home from a Cherubim and Seraphim in Ijaiye, Lagos. The deceased was at the roadside in Ijaiye when the bus driven by a certain Tajudeen Ojelabi knocked her down, killing her in the process.
Tajudeen Ojelabi had reportedly lost control of the bus due to faults of the brake system.
According to a report, Funmilalyo Owodunni was rejected by six hospitals before she was admitted at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, where she spent 16 days before losing the battle with the injuries sustained from the accident on Tuesday, November 11.
Tajudeen Ojelabi was arrested and arraigned before an Ojokoro Magistrate’s Court on three counts of reckless driving and non-possession of driving licence.
The prosecutor, Inspector Idowu Oneme, said the offences were contrary to and punishable under sections 18, 19 and Shedule II, No 1 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2012.
Tajudeen Ojelabi has however pleaded not guilty to the charges, while the presiding magistrate, Mrs. T. Akani, admitted him to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till Tuesday, January 27, 2015.
