This year, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) is

The news was announced by the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye at the annual Thanksgiving service, according to The Nations.

Making the declaration, the RCCG G.O noted that the church used to do 40 days of fasting and prayer every year.

However, he says the fact that the exercise will now hold for 80 days means members are going have double blessings this year.

Importance of thanksgiving

During the service, Daddy G.O delivered a message titled: ‘The Power of Gratitude.’

He said, ”Do allow what you don’t have to blindfold you to what you already have. Do not forget where you started from and how far God has brought you.

“There are few people among us who cannot understand why God is so good to us. Considering our background, parents, our abilities, we find it difficult to understand how God has been so gracious to us.

“Let us learn to appreciate God. In what ways are we better than those that have died? How can we explain God’s safety while traveling without any record of the accident, provision of food, for sound sleep and good health? Was there any special thing we did last year to experience God’s favor and mercy?”

Pastor Adeboye also urged people not to forget that there is no victory until they make it to heaven to be with God forever.

At this point, he made reference to some people who died last year. In his words, “I know that they finished well.

“Though God took them suddenly that I had no chance to negotiate, they are in heaven laughing and rejoicing that they finished well.”

He ended by encouraging everyone to always trust in God’s power, adding that aggressive praise, prayer, giving and faith is needed in order to receive His limitless blessings in 2018.

This year’s fasting and prayer exercise is divided into two- the first phase from January 11 to March 1, while the second phase will begin on July 1 and finish July 30, 2018.
