10 things Muslims wish Christians knew about this month long celebration

Learn about this ongoing month of Ramadan, celebrated annually by Muslims.

The Ramadan is a huge deal for Muslims.

It is annual month long celebration, that focuses on appreciating for his goo works.

Unfortunately, a lot of Christians, and non-Muslims have some misconceptions about this.

Pulse is here to clear these up and encourage a common ground between readers.

1. Fasting starts at sunrise: Meaning Muslims can eat before the sun rises. This is the sahur.

2. It ends with sunset: Muslims break their fast as soon as the sun sets, at night, with the iftar.

3. Fasting is a compulsory religious rite.

4. The Quran is against forcing people to fast: Despite the fact that fasting is compulsory, the holy book prohibits parents from forcing their children to fast, and and so on.

5. It breeds empathy for people, that lack food: This period encourages people to respect others, who lack food, on a daily basis.

6. Ramadan is more than the fast: It also involves alms giving, regular praying, reading the Quran, basically, living a holy life.

7. Fornication, adultery and masturbation: These are three are highly prohibited in this period.

8. Sex between couples is allowed, only between sunset and sunrise.

9. Fasting is not an excuse to only sleep and avoid your regular routine. Muslims have to continue with their normal routine.

10. Some people are exhibited from the fast. These are the sick, elderly, long distance travellers, menstruating ladies, pregnant and nursing mothers (optional).

The 2016 Ramadan began on the evening of Sunday, June 5, and ends in the evening of Tuesday, July 5th.
