Pontiff says the Lord’s prayer needs to be changed

The Catholic leader has an explanation for why a change to this famous prayer is necessary.

His reasoning is that there is something wrong with the translation used by many parts of the world.

In an interview with Italian broadcasters, he explained that the Italian and English translations go against what the Bible teaches.

Pope Francis explains: “It is not a good translation because it speaks of a God who induces temptation.”

His preferred version is the adapted one used by French Christians.

The Pope adds: “The French have modified the prayer to ‘do not let me fall into temptation’, because it is me who falls, not the Lord who tempts me to then see how I fall”.

Not everyone is happy with the Pope

Statements like these make him one of the most disliked men by Catholics who fear that he is causing confusion and reform in the church.

Reactions to the current pope include:

“The Pope needs to stop making remarks like this! They’re too easily misunderstood! No one should have to write an article after the fact explaining what the Pope actually said/meant. The Pope needs to deliberate for hours on end before so much as opening his mouth! Every word must be crafted with the utmost perfection so that the media doesn’t get the wrong idea!” etc., etc.

“This kind of thing never happened when Benedict XVI/John Paul II was Pope!”

“This is doctrinal immodesty, if I may use the phrase. Rather than clothe the precious doctrine of the Body of Christ in garments of sobriety, modesty and Prudence, the truths of the Church are being sold away [by Pope Francis, presumably] cheaply to the moral perverts and enemies of Christ.”

In 2016, Pope Francis responded by saying that he is 'not losing sleep' over the critics.
