The description of Paradise

The luxuries of Paradise surpass the imagination and defy description.

What are the rewards that are in store for us if we worship Allah with true intentions and do good deeds in this life? The Holy Quran and Sunnah without mincing words say it is the Paradise. References are plentiful in the Holy Quran and the Traditions which talk about Jannah, i.e., the Paradise. The reward for goodness is eternal goodness, and the reward for evil is torment and despair. Peace is thy word in Paradise. The actual description of Paradise is beyond comprehension and we will never be able to understand until we actually enter it, but God has shown us glimpses of it in the Holy Quran. He has described it as a place essentially different to the life of this world, both in the very nature and purpose of life, as well as the types of delights which people will relish therein.

The Holy Quran categorically states in chapter An Nisa 4:124: ‘If any do deeds of righteousness, be they male or female, and have faith, they will enter Heaven, and not the least injustice will be done to them.’ The Holy Quran further affirms that Allah will admit those who believe and work righteous deeds, to Gardens beneath which rivers flow: they shall be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and pearls; and their garments there will be of silk. (Al-Hajj 22:23).Paradise is devoid of any impurities of this world. Eating and drinking in this life results in the need for excretion and its associated unpleasant odours. If a person drinks wine in this world, he loses his mind. Women in this world menstruate and give birth, which are sources of pain and hurt. Paradise is free from all of these discomforts: its people will not urinate, defecate, spit or suffer from any diseases. The Prophet (PBUH) answered a person when they asked how the people of Paradise will relieve themselves: “They relieve themselves by perspiring through their skins, and its fragrance will be that of musk, and all stomachs will have become lean.” (ibn Hibbaan)

The Sahabah asked the Prophet (PBUH) about the buildings of Paradise and he replied with a wonderful description:“Bricks of gold and silver, and mortar of fragrant musk, pebbles of pearl and sapphire, and soil of saffron. Whoever enters it is filled with joy and will never feel miserable; he will live there forever and never die; their clothes will never wear out and their youth will never fade.” (Ahmad,at-Tirmidhi).There will be no enmity between people nor ill-feelings: “And We shall remove from their breasts any (mutual) hatred or sense of injury (which they had, if at all, in the life of this world)...” (Quran 7:43)

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “There will be no hatred or resentment among them, their hearts will be as one, and they will glorify God, morning and evening.”(Saheeh Al-Bukhari).The Paradise is full of trees bearing fruits of all kinds, and of types which we have not seen or imagined, They will be there for those who strived to do their best in this life. The trees will bend their branches down for believers to reach them! All we need to do is to long for a particular one. Rivers of wine that does not intoxicate, rivers of honey, the purest of waters, and milk are all waiting for believers to enjoy.

Adil Salahi adds, “ As for the question of what do the believers do in Heaven, you should know that Heaven is not a place of work, but a place of reward. Work or action produces results. Heaven is that stage of the result. So, the preliminary stage, i.e., action, has finished by the end of every person’s term on this earth. The people in Heaven only enjoy the luxuries Allah provides them, which is their reward, i.e., the result of their actions, and express their gratitude to Allah by praising and glorifying Him.”The Holy Quran says: Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a Garden whose width is that [of the whole] of the heavens and of the earth, prepared for the righteous. (Al Imran 3:133).
