When asked about abortion on The View, Hillsong Pastor Carl Lentz failed to call it a sin.
During a recent appearance on “The View”, he was asked if abortion is a sin by the show’s co-host Sara Haines.
Instead of the expected ‘yes,’ his response was to give reasons why God is not the judge, adding that he prefers to introduce people to his faith before pointing out their sins.
He said, “That’s the kind of conversation we would have found out your story, where you’re from, what you believe. I mean, God’s the judge. People have to live to their own convictions.
“That’s such a broad question, to me, I’m going higher. I want to sit with somebody and say, ‘What do you believe?’”
His refusal to give a definitive answer caused Co-host Joy Behar to bluntly ask if abortion is a sin in his church, Hillsong United.
Once again, there was no straight answer with the pastor saying, “Some people would say it is,” Lentz responded to her “So it’s not an open and shut case for you?” question.
He continued, “To me, I’m trying to teach people who Jesus is first, and find out their story. Before I start picking and choosing what I think is sin in your life, I’d like to know your name.”
This answer goes against what many mainstream Christian churches preach as James Silberman, a contributor to TheFederalist.com, points out.
According to Silberman, Lentz’s answers reflects the current ‘watered-down sense of morality’ that modern Christians possess.
He added that refusing to condemn abortion is the same as supporting it saying, “‘Live to your own convictions’” is practically the slogan of the abortion lobby.”
Pastor Lentz’s answer may be a surprise to the conservative Christians but it simply reflects his church, known for their modern ways that are against the typical churches.
Popular celebrities like Justin Bieber, Vanessa Hudgens, Hailey Baldwin, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner are regular attendees.
