Sex is an important factor when it comes to human relationships, especially marriage. Hence the need to educate Muslim faithfuls. The topic of Oral sex is one that has generated a lot of controversy among Islamic scholars. What actually does the Quran say about oral sex? Is it Haram? Is it allowed? We shall shed more insights on this topic as we continue.

Oral sex is a sexual activity in which the genitals of one partner are stimulated by the mouth of the other. Some scholars say that it is a highly undesirable act, because of the mouth coming in contact with the genitals. Islamic scholars that support this, based their stand on the fact the Quran instructs faithfuls to be clean, pure and modest.

Another school of thought say oral sex is not right, because the mouth and tongue are used for the recitation of the Quran and the remembrance of God, therefore the semen, which is seen as impure in Islam should not be allowed in the mouth.

On the other hand, the more liberal Islamic scholars say that oral sex is permissible based on the premise that there is no clear command in the Hadith and Quran prohibiting such acts. An Islamic scholar who chose to speak under anonymity says that foreplay is encouraged in the Hadith, highlighting that kissing, touching etc are mentioned in the Hadith. In fact the prophet Muhammad forbade men to make love to their wives without engaging in foreplay.

He further stated that though the Hadith did not mention the act of oral sex as an act of foreplay, the man is instructed to make sure he satisfies his wife-brings her to an orgasm and the husband is allowed to enjoy the pleasure of his wife’s breast, provided no secretion is consumed during the act.

Islam allows a man and his wife to touch each other’s private part, and this is the argument of some other scholars who say the act of oral sex, is halal, that is, it is permissible. A female Islamic scholar who spoke with us also said that the Hadith encourages foreplay, and that since it does, oral sex is a natural way of foreplay that builds marriage relationships.

The general agreement is that no secretion should be swallowed during the act of oral sex and after such act, the couple must rinse their mouth to maintain purity.
