Imam advocates natural family planning

The Imam of Felele Central Mosque, Malam Abdulla Tahir, has admonished Nigerians to embrace natural family planning as a potent tool to overcoming unplanned children.

Tahir gave the advice while fielding questions from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lokoja on the need for Nigerians to align their lives with economic realities.

He enjoined people to only bear children they can adequately cater for. The cleric said Nigerians' greatest undoing was the lack of birth control mechanism in place that has led to the population rise.

According to him, without enough job opportunities to match the growing population, the idle mind would become the devil’s workshop.

Tahir said the Qur’an admonished the Muslim Ummah to marry up to four wives if they have the wherewithal to treat them equally.

He said there was no need to bear over 40 children when the source of income of the breadwinner cannot even take himself home not to talk of the children.

The Imam said he was contented with his one wife and four children, stressing that he was not prepared to bear more.He said he would like to give his four children sound education so that they would not be a burden on the society in future.
