Shake it off and step into your glory
2 Corinthians 4:8-9; "We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair."
The farmer racked his brains, trying to figure out what to so, while the donkey kept wailing. This went on for hours. Eventually, the farmer gives up on his old donkey and decides to cover up the well.
He gets people to help as they begin to shovel dirt into the well. The donkey starts to cry as it realises what is happening.
After a while, the donkey stopped crying. This surprised the farmer and his helpers, who looked into the well to see what was going on.
To their amazement, they saw that the donkey was not covered by the dirt, but was above the dirt. Each time, a shovel of dirt entered the well, the animal shook it off, and stepped on it.
After a while, the donkey was able to get to the edge of the well and trot off!
In this story, we are the donkey, life is the well that we have fallen into and the dirt is life's challenges, troubles, insults, and so on.
In life, we will always have challenges, people who dislike us for no reason, the job you want, the insults people hurl at you, hard and sad times, e.t.c.
When all of these come, we are given choices, a) either to cry, whine, complain like the donkey did at first, or b) shake it off and use it as a stepping stone to greatness.
2 Corinthians 4:8-11 says, "We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies."
Chose to shake things off by doing the following;
Forgive - I know it is easier said than done, but this is the only way to truly shake things off.
Free your mind of people's bad behaviour towards you.
Take your issues to God.
Trust and believe in God's ability to help you out of any well.
Psalm 40:2 says, "He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”
God never promised us challenge/obstacle-free lives, rather He promised to always be there, every step of the way.
