7 meaningful things to give up before end of Holy season
Try abstaining from these seven things before the end of Lent, which is just around the corner.
Luckily for us, there is still some time to try new things. For instance, you can try giving up the following;
1. Complaining —
Philippians 2:14–15 tells us to “Do all things without grumbling or disputing…” Let's try giving up this bad habit and actually taking the Bible’s advice.
2. Gossiping —
This is a nasty habit that a lot of people indulge without meaning to, sometimes. As we round up Lent, make a conscious effort to avoid gossiping. Avoid the topics and the people you usually gossip with.
3. Lying —
There are at least two Bible verses that tell us not to lie. Leviticus 19:11 commands, “Do not steal. Do not lie. Do not deceive one another.”
Psalm 119:163 adds, “I hate and detest falsehood…” Despite these instructions, we continue to lie.
During this Holy season, let's take the opportunity to do our best to live a lie-free life.
4. Cursing —
Ephesians 4:29–30: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to the needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
Just in case, you were wondering why this is on the list.
5. Excessive drinking and smoking —
Numbers 6:3 encourages us, “He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink...”
6. Sex
Let’s allow the Bible do all the talking here.
Ephesians 5:3 says, “But among you, there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed because these are improper for God’s holy people.”
7. Worrying
This is an important one to consider. During this season, let go of worrying and try having faith instead, trusting that God will work out everything.
