This is a blogpost by AuntyB... Cheating is basically copying someone’s work without giving credit to the person. In the academic context, it is called Plagiarism and the consequences are grievous.

If we take a walk down memory lane, we will remember at least one incidence in school that involved cheating. As a matter of fact, I doubt if any one can say that they never attempted to cheat at least once during their time in school.

I remember a very dear child, who was in primary 1 and had a test. He had copied all answers on a piece of paper. He put the piece paper on his desk confidently, and started copying into his test paper.

The teacher was amazed at the effrontery! She went to him to ask what he was doing. His reply? “I have copied all the answers here so I can copy in my test paper, I don’t want to forget any answer!”

As a child counselor, I had the privilege of talking with this very ‘smart kid”; he had to be told that it is wrong and explained why.

He did not think it was wrong that is why he didn’t hide his “sin”

Why do we cheat? We cheat so that we can get it right!

Why do we hide it? Because we know that it is wrong?

Or because we know that we will be punished if we get caught? Right there is the snag… 'IF'... so if we don’t get caught it's “all good” and we will definitely not admit to it.

Sometimes we cheat because we do not prepare. Remember those guys at school (I think they exist in all schools), who had a “cheat syndicate“.

They would not attend most classes and the few they manage to show up in, they try to disrupt. They are usually not serious about their academic pursuits. They don’t want to know, they just want to pass.

Sometimes, however, we do prepare, but we feel that some others who are more intelligent are more prepared than we are, and this might be true.

When we are caught though, the humiliation has a rippling effect and friends and family are affected.

There is no doubt that Michelle Obama, the wife of the present POTUS and therefore the FLOTUS is more intelligent than Melania Trump, the wife of the “POTUS wannabe”.

Like them or hate them, she might end up being the first lady of the United States of America, come November, because in a democracy, ANYTHING can happen (the EU can testify).

This is a Harvard Law School graduate, who also went to Princeton… the PRINCETON, people! Talk of beauty and brains!

Now, Melania, is a former model, jewelry and watch designer. Need I say more?

Plagiarism, is taken seriously in the academic circles, and I agree that sometimes we don’t intend to cheat, however “ignorance is no excuse”, so if any work is proved to have been plagiarized, the student faces stiff punishment, which might include expulsion.

What Melania and her speech-writers did was so wrong. I thought by now, we would have heard the “roar of the Lion,“ Mr. Trump, as he says his famous words “YOU ARE FIRED!“

That obviously won’t be happening in the near future. Politics… very complicated.
