Pulse Music presents the list of all the winners who have ever smiled home with the gong.

Reekado Banks

Of all the award categories contained at the Headies, one stands out as a true marker of quality; the Next Rated Awards.

This category is a voting category for the most promising upcoming act in the year under review, and it also comes with a stellar gift, a Hyundai SUV.

From Asa, to Davido, Wizkid, Skuki, and Sean Tizzle, a number of artistes have been winners of the gong.

2006: Asa

The inception of the Headies came with a blessing for a young Asa who took home the gong.

2007: Overdose

Young, vibrant and flashy, Overdoise ran home with the award, leaving behind promising including Naeto C, Gino, Kage, Blaise, C-Mion, Lawal Olumo.

2008: Wande Coal

The ex-Mohits star blazed through this year, after releasing one of the most classic Nigerian albums; “Mushin to Mohits”. He overcame stiff competition from M.I Abaga, Banky W, Cyrus Da Virus, GT Tha Guitarman.

2009: Omawumi

The songbird sang through to the prestigious award, blowing away YQ, MP, Kel, and D’Jinee.

2010: Skuki

The singer brothers were in fine form, mobilising their fan base to push them to the top via voting. It at the cost of Jesse Jagz, General Pype, D’Prince and Mo’Cheddah missing out.

2011: Wizkid

The former EME act took Nigeria by storm, conquering the country with the acclaimed “Superstar” album. His trail left a list of worthy winners including Tiwa Savage, Ice Prince, and Olamide.

2012: Davido

After Wizkid came Davido, who emerged with vigour and the funding to see through his projects. He stood head over shoulders when compared with the other nominees including Praiz, Eva, and Chuddy K.

2013: Sean Tizzle

Sean Tizzle’s pop dominance came through on the night of glitter, as his singles ‘Sho lee’, ‘Kilogbe’, and many others overcame the brilliance of Burna Boy, Phyno, Seyi Shay and Dammy Krane.

2014: Patoranking

The Foston Music star was brilliant in the year under review with ‘Alubarika’, ‘Girlie Oh’ and other singles propelling him to the crown. He came out tops in a strong year which  had Orezi, Yemi Alade, Skales, and Runtown.

A controversial year, the Mavin Records singer was crowned amidst stiff competition from YBNL’s rapper Lil Kesh. Others who failed to win include Korede Bello, Cynthia Morgan and Kiss Daniel.
