Wizkid, Davido, Cynthia Morgan making waves

Pulse Nigeria presents a list of young cats you should know.

Nigeria has been blessed with awesome talent and age hasn’t stopped some of these young cats from starting their musical careers at an early age.  Here’s a list of artists from the ages of 25 and under making waves.

Korede Bello – 19

Don Jazzy signed Korede Bello to Mavin Records in February 2014. The singer gained popularity with the release of his singles ‘African princess’ and ‘Godwin’ as well as his verses on the record label's colloborative songs including ''. His 'Godwin' song landed him a performance gig at the 2015 Presidential dinner in Abuja.

Bello has developed a cult following mostly made up of young girls who call themselves "Bellovers".  He an ambassador for telecoms networks Globalcom and an ambassador for fabric brand Woodin.

Kiss Daniel – 21

21 and Kiss Daniel is already on the path to success. The singer rose to stardom with the release of his single ‘Woju’ in 2014. The song made it to number one on several music charts across the country including MTV Base's Official Naija Top 10. His follow up single “Laye” is also popular hit.

Davido – 22

Omo baba olowo (OBO) as he is fondly called, came into the music scene four years ago and shook it up with his single 'Back when'. Not only did he drop a great song, he had a dope video and collaborated with the Super C (Naeto C), yet he was a rookie.

In spite of the criticism that he comes from a wealthy family, Davido has stuck to his art and has released several hit singles including ‘Dami duro’, ‘Ekuro’, and ‘Skelewu’.

Reekado Banks – 23

In June 2015, Reekado Banks built his parents a house. The singer’s story is one of grass to grace. Earlier this year, he shared how he used to hawk blenders in traffic and work as a manual labourer at a construction site in a bid to earn some money to use to record music.

The Glo ambassador was signed to Mavin Records in February 2014 after his brother submitted some of his materials to the record label. The singer garnered attention with his first single ‘Turn it up’ which featured Tiwa Savage.

His single ‘Katapot’ produced by Don Jazzy remains a favourite of many.

Burna Boy  - 24

You sabi boy! It’s been an upward surge for Burna Boy since he released "Like To Party" in 2012. The singer has received massive love back home as well as in the Southern region of the continent. He has worked with some of the biggest South African acts including Aka and Da Les.

Cynthia Morgan – 24

Cynthia Morgan is one of a kind and she’s got everyone’s attention. Compared to most of the other ladies in the industry, she’s raw, she’s audacious. Her music style is unique; it’s a combination of hip hop and dancehall.

Skales – 24

Skales gained recognition when he signed with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) records. While he was with the label, he dropped several singles including ‘Mukulu’ and ‘Keresimesi’. The singer/rapper also collaborated with his label mates at the time including Wizkid, Banky W and Shaydee on the label’s compilation album.

Following his departure from EME, he set up his own label and released ‘Shake body’ which was well received. Alica Keys recently posted a video of herself water dancing to his hit single.

Wizkid – 25

Wizkid is a shooting star no one can hold down. 6 years into his career, The Star boy has flown over boundaries some music veterans are yet to cross. The singer has grown a massive fan base in Europe and America especially with the release of ‘Ojuelegba’ remix with Drake and Skepta.

Asides from working with top Nigerian musicians, Wizkid has worked several international acts including Chris Brown, Angelique Kidjo, Norwegian duo Nico & Vinz and Ty Dolla Sign.
