The film will star Ryan Reynolds as the voice of the titular character, with Justice Smith as his human partner. It's slated to drop on May 10th.
In both "Detective Pikachu" and the Pokmon games, Pokmon live alongside humans in place of animals, making them a common sight on city streets and in nature. The trailers for "Detective Pikachu" are chock full of hidden Pokmon and fun nods to the games that inspired the film.
But with more than 800 Pokmon to keep track of, recognizing all of them can be a chore. Luckily we've done the extra work to slow the trailer down and see just how many were brought to life in the trailer. Between two trailers and a 30-second TV ad, I counted no fewer than 30 live Pokmon. Even more can be seen on ads and billboards in the backgrounds.
Here are the Pokmon I spotted in both trailers, in the order they appear.
These creatures crawling on the power lines at the start of the new trailer are actually a bug-type Pokmon called Joltik.
"Pokemon Detective Pikachu"
While Joltik is certainly big for a regular bug, its actually one of the smallest Pokmon.
Ludicolo is a hilarious Pokmon that grows stronger when it hears happy music.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
Known as "the carefree Pokmon," Ludicolo seems like a good choice as a bartending buddy.
The Ryme City Police have a few different Pokmon partners.

Growlithe, the puppy Pokmon also works with Officer Jenny in the Pokmon anime.
Arcanine is Growlithes majestic-looking evolved form.

According to "Pokmon: Red and Blue," Lickitungs tongue is actually twice as long as its body.
Aipom is a monkey-like Pokmon with a three-fingered hand on its tail. They usually dont look so vicious!
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
In the games Aipom is almost always smiling, and the Pokmon is typically mischievous.
Despite its gruff exterior, Snubbull, the fairy-type Pokmon, is a sweetheart.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
Snubbulls pink, polka-dotted appearance belies its angry looks.
Machamp helps direct traffic, while a Snorlax naps nearby.
Pokemon Detective Pikachu
Unsurprisingly, Machamps are often seen working out with bodybuilders in the Pokmon games.
Snorlax, on the other hand, is often found out asleep in public, blocking major roads in the process.
Cubone, a small ground Pokmon, has a tragic backstory.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
Early Pokmon games said that Cubone is actually wearing its mothers skull.
Diplo, a popular DJ in the real world, makes a cameo appearance with two Loudreds.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
As its name suggests, Loudred can create sounds capable of flipping trucks with its voice, and can use its ears as loudspeakers.

Blastoise is the final evolution of Squirtle, one of the original three starter Pokmon. Hes on the cover of "Pokmon Blue Version."
Haunter is a ghost-type Pokmon from the first generation of Pokmon.
Flareon, a fire-type Pokmon, is shown in the trailer. Two legendary Pokmon, Dialga and Palkia, are shown as statutes in the background.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
Flareon is one of eight evolutions of Eevee, one of the original Pokmon..

Mewtwo has since made appearances in Nintendos "Super Smash Bros." series, making use of his psychic powers.
The first trailer for "Pokmon Detective Pikachu" begins in Ryme City
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
The trailer's opening seconds feature more Pokmon than any other scene as we're introduced to Ryme City, a location lifted straight from the "Detective Pikachu" game. While several of the flying Pokmon can't be clearly identified, I counted at least 8 monsters in this scene alone.
Flabb is the floating flower Pokmon in the upper right hand corner of that shot.

Comfey spins through the sky as well.

Fearow stands out among the other bird Pokmon.

Emolga, the sky squirrel Pokmon, can be seen flying here, and again later in the Ryme City marketplace.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
Dodrios heads stick out in the crowd.

Charmander, one of the three starter Pokmon from the first game, passes by on the lower left, and later uses his tail to help light a fire in the marketplace.

Later, we see Psyduck and Lucy (Kathryn Newton) on the street with more guest stars in the background.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
Psyduck was a familiar face in the early seasons of the Pokmon TV show.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
The trailer also shows Detective Pikachus arrival in his human friend Tim Goodmans apartment.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
Pikachu has always been the mascot of Pokmon, but Detective Pikachu is a new character introduced in 2016. He debuted in a Nintendo 3DS game of the same name.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
The trailer also shows us the Ryme City Marketplace.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
In addition to Emolga and Dodrio popping up in the background with Pikachu, there's one more visable Pokmon in the crowd.
Audino, the hearing Pokmon, can be seen standing on the right side of the market.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
The shot also shows us some Bulbasaur wading through a stream.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
Bulbasaur is the very first Pokmon in the Pokedex.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
Morelull glow as they float through the air.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
We get our first glimpse at this adorably angry Jigglypuff, apparently in residence at a cafe.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
Jigglypuff singing folks to sleep is a gag thats almost as old as the franchise.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
Things take a turn for the scary when we see Charizard in a cage.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
Charizard is one of the series most iconic Pokmon, appearing on the box and cartridge of "Pokmon Red."
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
We also see a pack of Greninja.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
The trailer shows a group of Greninja chasing Pikachu and Tim through multiple scenes. The ninja frogs first debuted in "Pokmon X and Y," in 2013. Fun fact: Greninjas "scarf" is actually his tongue.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
We go back to the cage with the missing Pokmon.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
Three Pokmon inside the cage with Tim and Pikachu can easily be missed in this dark scene, including Squirtle and Panchan, who are both shown on missing-persons (or missing-Pokmon) posters earlier in the trailer. Panchan is standing at the bottom of the cage as the camera fades in.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
Squirtle, the last of the three starter Pokmon from the original games, can be seen behind bars on the right side of the screen.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
Rufflet appears just underneath Pikachus tail.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
A memorable scene shows the interrogation of Mr. Mime.
"Pokmon Detective Pikachu"/Warner Bros. Pictures
Mr. Mime is one of the original 151 Pokmon and certainly one of the weirdest.
The Pokmon Company/Nintendo
The "Detective Pikachu" trailer is stuffed full of Pokmon with just two minutes of runtime, and much of what we see in the background of Ryme City suggests that we'll be seeing many, many more when the film releases next year. With more than 800 different species of Pokmon to chose from, Warner Bros. has plenty of options.
