Six interesting things about the new board and management team of Etisalat Nigeria

As part of the deal, a new board and an interim management team were formed to sail the company out of the turbulence situation.

The new management team are expected to take over the company immediately. Here are some things you should know about the team.

1. The new chairman of the Etisalat Nigeria is an official of the CBN, Dr Joseph Nnanna. Dr Nnanna is a Deputy Governor in charge of Financial System Stability and Chairman of Africa Finance Corporation (AFC).

2. The CBN aimed at using this to effectively monitor the transition process, before transfer to the new buyer(s) at a future date.

3. The new CEO, Mr Boye Olusanya is the immediate past Managing Director of DanCom Technologies Limited, a company owned by Alhaji Aliko Dangote. At a time, he was the substantive Managing Director of Econet Wireless and has previously served as Chief Business Transformation Officer responsible for management of all enterprise-wide projects in the group.

4. The Executive Director, Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Ms Funke Ighodaro was CFO at Tiger Brands Limited from 2010-2016.

5. Having the CEO and CFO from Alhaji Aliko Dangote relative businesses are lining to some stories about Dangote’s interest in acquiring Etisalat Nigeria. Though, Orange S.A Telecommunications (a French company) and Vodafone Telecommunication ( a United Kingdom company) are noted as favourable buyers of the company.

6. Two of the big four consulting and auditing firms in Nigeria, PwC Nigeria and KPMG Nigeria, had one non-executive director each on the new board. Mr Ken Igbokwe – PwC Nigeria and West Africa Business Leader, and Mr Oluseyi Bickersteth – Leader of KPMG West Africa region team and is a member of the KPMG global board.
