SWIFT extends its free Wi-Fi to Lagos school

The Red Cheetah free Wi-Fi service went live at the Federal College of Education, Akoka, Lagos, last week.

The Red Cheetah free Wi-Fi service went live at the institution last Tuesday.

In a statement made available to Business Insider Sub-Saharan Africa, Charles Anudu, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, said the service, which is supported by revenue from leading global brands, was conceived to make fast and free broadband service available to Nigerians, thereby helping to deepen broadband penetration in support of the National Broadband Plan of the Federal Government.

“Our free service aims to connect Nigerians to the global digital society through access to a fast, free and secure broadband service that consequently create measurable value for the excellent brands that make the service possible. We believe that access to information, especially in an academic environment, remains a key driver for academic excellence and innovation.”

Speaking during the launch, students of school commended SWIFT for the free internet service. Esther Kolawole, a 100-Level student of Primary Education said that the free Wi-Fi service has provided the much-needed elixir for her academic and social life.

In March 2018, SWIFI launched the Red Cheetah service through hotspots all over the campus and locations around Lagos.  The service, according to the statement is available at over 400 locations already, including iconic ones like the Hard Rock Café, Spurs, Barcelos, Tastee Fried Chicken, Bukka Hut restaurants, major lounges, schools, merchant locations, and over 200 BRT buses in Lagos.

Last week, Google Nigeria also launched its free internet service in 6 location across Lagos state, including the University of Lagos.
