  • The government of Ghana is planning on setting up a pilot training academy in the country.
  • According to the Aviation Minister, they are waiting for a report on feasibilty studies conducted by some investors.
  • If this is done, it will allow interested Ghanaian youth to study piloting in Ghana instead of travelling outside to do so.

Ghana’s Aviation Minister, Joseph Kofi Adda has said that a pilot training academy will soon be set up in the country to allow interested people to train in Ghana.

Adda was speaking after meeting with the youngest Ghanaian female pilot in the country’s capital.

The minister said that the government is currently waiting for a report from investors who have conducted feasibility tests in the country already.

When this facility is completed and operational, interested Ghanaian youth will no longer have to travel to South Africa or Europe for training.

The facility will also help address the shortage of pilots and further create opportunities for the youth to get into the aviation sector.

To train an individual as a pilot costs between US$ 60,000 to US$ 100,000.

Statistics available show that the Middle East and Africa regions are in dire need of pilots. About 30,000 pilots will be needed in the next decade.

Meanwhile, it is predicted that Africa’s aviation market will top the global growth charts over the next 20 years.
