Ghana is making reforms to improve Ease of Doing Business ranking

  • In 2018, Ghana was 114 out of 190 economies worldwide World Bank report on Doing Business Ranking.
  • This is a move six places up from its previous position of 120.
  • The government of Ghana has indicated that it will put in more effort to significantly improve its position on the ranking.

Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said that the government will introduce some reforms by end of February 2019 in order to see Ghana rise significantly on the World Bank’s ease of doing business list for 2019.

Ghana moved six places up from 120 to 114 out of 190 economies worldwide on the 2018 World Bank report on Doing Business Ranking.

Dr Bawumia who was speaking at the 3rd German–African Business Summit in Accra said the government of Ghana is committed to creating an enabling environment for all investors across the world.

“It is very important that we are putting in place institution that will anchor macroeconomic stability. And I think this is important also for investors both domestic and foreign that you’re going to come into an environment which is relatively stable.”

He acknowledged that even though Ghana has done well when it comes to the ease of doing business a lot more can be done to improve Ghana’s position on the rankings in 2019.

“We’re working on some reforms which will be announced by the end of this month that will help Ghana move forward when it comes to the ease of doing business.”

Dr Bawumia added that Ghana as a country was learning from best practices in different fields from Germany. He promised that Ghana will work with Germany to ensure citizens of both countries benefit from all partnerships.

“We would continue to work together with Germany to build on our strong relationship and also continue to put in place measures that will support the growth of our two countries.”
