Mikel, Rohr showed the real meaning of patriotism by still voting for Victor Moses as CAF’s best player
Despite 2016-17 season being great for Moses, soccer fans in the continent think Mohammed Salah had achieved more and deserving of both awards.
National team captains and managers are eligible voters in this category, hence both John Mikel and Gernot Rohr maintained that Victor Moses is best for the award in 2017 considering his achievements.
The award for the best player of the year went to Mohammed Salah of Egypt and Liverpool with Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also finalists.
Mikel and Rohr were not alone in this though as the coaches of South Sudan, Namibia, Swaziland cast their final votes for the Chelsea winger. The captain of South Sudan also voted Victor Moses as the best.
Victor Moses also lost 2017 BBC Sports African Player of the Year Award to the Salah.
Had Moses won the award, he would have been the fourth Nigerian to do so – Emmanuel Amunike (1996), Nwankwo Kanu (1997 & 1999) and Jay-Jay Okocha (2004).
Despite the 2016-17 season being a great one for Moses, soccer fans in the continent think Mohammed Salah had achieved more and most deserving of both awards.
