Earnings from one boxing match may put McGregor ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in Forbes' lists of rich athletes

A match with Floyd Mayweather Jnr is one every athlete will be willing to have anytime

The Irish fighter had predicted to Ronaldo during the latter’s visit to observe his training in Las Vegas in 2016.

‘You were number one on the Forbes list, I was like number 35 or something. I’ll get up.  Maybe next year I’ll get you.’

Ronaldo replied: ‘I don’t think so.’

McGregor’s is expected to earn about $99.53 million (£77 million) from his  match with Floyd Mayweather. A value which excludes endorsements deals and other earnings from corporate engagements.

This would leap frog the Irish fighter from its current 24th position to top five in the world, or even toppling Ronaldo who currently leads the list.

Cristiano Rolando earns around $93 million (£71 million) including salary and endorsements deals.

Floyd Mayweather may be far higher than this, but so far his earnings from most of the fights are usually undisclosed. Since the ’Money Man’ has retired, Cristiano Ronaldo and McGregor are expected to be in the race for this top spot.

Recent players transfer in the soccer world also posit that many players would join the lists in the coming years.

According to some reporters, the Las Vegas match generated above $301.18 million (£233m) in revenue for the match organisers.
