Top White House aide takes shot at Mitch McConnell after his criticisms of Trump

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell "must have needed another 4 years — in addition to the 7 years — to repeal and replace Obamacare," Dan Scavino tweeted.

A White House aide took shots at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's handling of the healthcare fight on Twitter.

The White House social media director attacked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday for critical comments the Kentucky senator had made about President Donald Trump.

McConnell said earlier this week that Trump was frustrated with the speed of Congress because the president "has not been in this line of work before." McConnell also told a Rotary Club meeting in Kentucky that Trump had "excessive expectations" for legislators.

The social media director, Dan Scavino, shot back Wednesday, tweeting that Congress' slowness was on McConnell's shoulders.

"More excuses," Scavino tweeted, adding that McConnell "must have needed another 4 years — in addition to the 7 years — to repeal and replace Obamacare." He included a link to a Fox Business story about McConnell's comments.

Senate Republicans failed last month to pass a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare, the healthcare law officially called the Affordable Care Act, for now killing the efforts to overhaul the US healthcare system.

Scavino followed up with another tweet, using a hashtag of one of Trump's favorite taglines, "drain the swamp."

Earlier this week, McConnell also criticized Trump's social-media use, a position he said he had expressed to the president.

"I've been, and I will be again today, not a fan of tweeting, and I've said that to him privately," McConnell said. "I think it would be helpful if the president would be a little more on message."
