Nigeria’s Internally Displaced Persons get $10million aid from Saudi Arabia
The donation is for the provision of food and basic amenities in camps of Internally Displaced Persons in the North-East.
A total sum of $10million has been donated to Internally Displaced Persons in NorthEast Nigeria who have been victims of Boko Haram attacks since 2002.
The donation was made by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman as part of his aid and relief programme.
Represented by the Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister, Nasir Mutbak, the aid is expected to alleviate the current state of the IDPs, who are said to be at the mercy of the terrorists that have targeted IDP camps since August 2017.

Speaking at the presentation in Abuja on Tuesday, March 5, 2018, Mutbak, said “We are here to implement King Salman issued aid to help our brothers in IDPs and refugees in North-East. We are here to reach out, and provide assistance for our brothers in that region. And of course, the donation will be $10 million.”
Receiving Mutbak and other delegates in Abuja, Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Retired Brigadier General Mansur Dan, said the fund will go a long way in helping to fight terrorism in the country.
The Nigerian Government under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed the supply of relief aids to IDPs since his assumption of office and this has been marred with allegations of diversion of relief materials.
Premium Times reports that despite the reports, the camp officials still steal food meant for IDPS and many displaced persons have bitterly complained of inability to do anything.
According to the USAID, as of December 2017, the UN estimated that 7.7 million people in northeastern Nigeria required humanitarian assistance; of the population in need, approximately 2.6 million people were acutely food-insecure and 1.6 million people were displaced.

The majority of internally displaced persons continue to reside in host communities, straining local resources and exacerbating needs among displaced and host populations.
