Among these 25, there are some that made their wealth thanks to technology. A large part of these individuals’ wealth is due to the revenue from their tech business.

Here are six billionaires in Africa that made most of their wealth from technology-related business(es).

1.    Mike Adenuga - Globacom, Nigeria

Mike Adenuga is the second richest man in Nigeria. He is the chairman of Globacom- the second largest mobile operator in Nigeria, and most of his wealth is tied to the business. His net current worth is $5.4 billion.

2.   Isabel dos Santos – Unitel, Angola

Isabel Dos Santos is the richest woman in Africa, and daughter of the President of Angola, Jose Dos Santos. She is currently the head of Sonangol, Angola’s state oil firm.

Isabel owns 25 percent equity stake in Unitel, the largest mobile phone network in Angola, and 42 per cent in Banco BIC. She is also a shareholder of Portuguese cable TV and telecoms company, Nos SGPS.

3.    Naguib Sawiris - Wind Telecom and Orascom Telecom Holdings, Egypt

Sawaris was the executive chairman of two telecommunication giants, Wind Telecom and Orascom Telecom Holdings before joining politics in 2011. He is currently valued $3.8 billion.

4.    Onsi Sawiris - Orascom, Egypt

Onsi is the father of Naguib and made fortune from telecommunication and construction sectors. He is the founder of Orascom group and currently valued at $1.19 billion.

5.    Othman Benjelloun - Meditelecom, Morocco

Benjelloun is the richest man in Morocco. Like his father, Benjelloun made his fortune from the insurance industry. He is currently the chairman of BMCE Bank, the second largest bank in Africa.

Benjelloun has a minority stake in Meditelecom, the second largest mobile phone operator in Morocco. According to Forbes Billionaire list, Bejelloun's current net worth is $1.9 billion.

6.    Patrice Motsepe, Rain Telecom, South Africa

Patrice Motsepe is a mining magnate, but he has recently ventured into financial services and telecom to expand his business empire. He owns 20 percent stake in Rain Telecom, a fixed and mobile data network operator and is worth $1.69 billion.
