Jussie Smollet arrested by Chicago police on charge of making false police report of homophobic attack

Actor Jussie Smollet has been arrested by police in Chicago, charged with making a false police report of a homophobic and racist attack he said happened to him.

Police spokesman Tom Ahern said that Smollet could face three years in prison for disorderly conduct and for falsifying a police report.

The "Empire" actor was charged with making a false police report on Wednesday when he said he was attacked in Chicago by two men who hurled racist and anti-gay slurs and looped a rope around his neck, according to police.

Ahern said that a bond hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Cook County Criminal Court.
