Kayla Rose was walking her bichon-poodle mix named Milkshake in Irvington, New Jersey, on Thursday before school when she saved the man.
She had heard knocking and scratching from the trunk of a black Nissan parked on her block and decided to investigate.vvvvvvv
Rose told WABC that she then went to her neighbor's house for help, and they called police.
The neighbor who called police, Joe Bollaro, told WABC that he tried to open the trunk with a crowbar but was unsuccessful.
Police arrived on scene and opened the locked trunk, where witnesses say the man was found tied up and beaten.
The man, who has not been publicly named, was taken to a hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Rose told The Post that the man looked like he was between 18 and 20 and had injuries on his forehead.
The man told police that he was kidnapped from nearby Hillside, New Jersey, and forced to take out cash from multiple ATMs before he was put in the trunk of the car, according to WABC.
Police told The Post that the victim was carjacked.
"He was shaken up, he was beat up," Rose's mother, Marie Banks, told WABC. "I guess he was very happy, thankful for my daughter that she found him."
Banks called her daughter a "Hero."
"How many times you hear people found dead in a trunk?" she told The Post.
Police are investigating the alleged kidnapping. A reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment is being offered by the Union County Crime Stoppers.
