10 easy ways keep your food safe when your power goes out
When the power goes out, one of the concerns can be that all your food will go bad. Luckily, there are lots of things you can do to preserve it.
Buy appliance thermometers to keep inside your refrigerator and freezer.
Freeze bottles of water.
Buy or make your own bags of ice.
Group your frozen food together in your freezer.
Transfer items from your refrigerator to your freezer.
Keep the refrigerator door closed.
Keep a cooler or two handy in case of a prolonged power outage.
Don't keep food outdoors.
Stock up on shelf-stable food and charcoal/propane for your outdoor grill.
Cook food that is beginning to thaw.
