Nigerians claim MMM founder's death is a reward for defrauding Africans

Nigerians in Nigeria have greeted the death of MMM founder, Sergei Mavrodi, with mixed feelings following the news of his passing away on Sunday, March 25, 2018 in Moscow, Russia.

Quite a number of Twitter users in Nigeria have taken to the social medium platform to express their thoughts about the death of the founder of the main financial pyramid of the 1990s that crept into Nigeria in early 2017.

Nigerian Twitter users had wondered how the businessman, who became infamous for fraud, lost his life to a heart attack.

In 2003, he was convicted of fraud on an especially large scale in Russia.

Three years later, 2016 to be precise, Mavrodi's financial pyramid scam found its way into Nigeria and by December 2016, more than three million Nigerians lost a whopping N18 billion after investing in the Ponzi scheme.

Mavrodi's death

According to a report by Russian media platform, Moskovsky Komsomolets, Mavrodi had complained on weakness and pain in his heart when he was rushed to a hospital on the night of March 25, 2018.

Mavrodi was hospitalized after he was transported from a bus stop located at Polikarpova Street in an ambulance.

Born Sergei Panteleevich Mavrodi, the Russian fraudster passed away after doctors allegedly battled to save his life between Sunday, March 25, 2018 and Monday, March 26, 2018.

MMM, Mavrodi's creation has been considered the traditional and largest financial pyramid in the history of modern Russia with 2 to 10 million people affected by its activities.

The individuals involved in the pyramid lost about 3 billion rubles ($52.5m).
