<h1>The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II has called on residents to desist from spreading rumour that can lead to violence following the declaration of governorship election in the state inconclusive.</h1>

The monarch made the call while addressing a news conference at his Palace in Kano on Tuesday.

He said the call was necessary so as to douse the tension generated in the city as a result of the declaration of the governorship election inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday.

He said the law empowers only INEC to announce election results stressing that, “that should be respected by the people.”

He warned those sharing results not released by the electoral body to stop, in order not to mislead people.

“INEC is the only body given the power under the law to announce election results and it has done that by declaring the election inconclusive hence there will be re-run,” he said.

The Emir also advised politicians not to heat up the polity by making comments that could lead to violence in the state.

“Politicians should not see elections as war but rather a contest that should be conducted peacefully.”

Sanusi commended security agents in the state for their efforts at sustaining peace before, during and after the election.

He specifically commended the state Police Commissioner, Mr Muhammad Wakili for restoring public confidence in police.

“The Police Commissioner , Muhammad Wakili is worthy of commendation in view of the fact that he has restored public confidence in the police,“ he said.

Emir of Kano Sanusi reacts to inconclusive elections

<h1>Gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday in Kano, killed a driver and kidnapped an expatriate in the metropolis.</h1>

The expatriate, who is a staff of Triacta Construction Company working on Kano Zoo Road under path, was abducted at the construction site in the metropolis.

An eye witness who pledged anonymity told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday that the incident happened around 7:00am as the company’s staff were returning to work after the election break.

The eye witness said the gunmen arrived in the site and shot the expatriate’s driver before taking him away to unknown destination.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who confirmed the story, said the person kidnapped was a Lebanese.

He explained that the gunmen also shot one other person dead and injured another, pointing out that the expatriate went out without his assigned security and driver.

He, however, said that investigation into the matter was on after which details would follow.

<h1>The Pan African Women Project, an International Election Observer Group, has described the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections in Kano state as free, fair and peaceful.</h1>

The leader of the Group, Ms Belinda Maduna made the remark at a post-election press conference held in Kano on Tuesday.

She said the election in Kano state was not only free and fair, but peaceful while eligible voters were allowed to exercise their franchise.

“We want to use this opportunity to tell you that the election in Kano was peaceful, free and without intimidation because everybody was calm on the day of the election,“ Maduna said.

She said that there was adequate security at all the polling units, adding that there was no reports of violence or ballot box snatching during the election.

“The security personnel did a great job during the election because there was no violence or ballot box snatching. Kano is a model despite its large population.”

She commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff for their dedication and commitment to duty during the exercise.

Maduna also noted that there were adequate election materials, only that voting was delayed due to late arrival of election materials and officials.

“In spite of the challenges there was very high voter inclusion as no voter was disenfranchised.

“The observation made by our group was that 67 per cent of the polling units in Kano began accreditation of voters between between 8:30am and 9:00am,” she said.

International observers laud INEC for free, fair election in Kano

<h1>The Kano State Government has said that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state does not need to buy votes for President Muhammadu Buhari to win election.</h1>

The government said Kano remained Buhari’s strongest support base in the country.

The Commissioner of Information, Malam Mohammed Garba, disclosed this to newsmen in Kano on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government was reacting to the allegation of vote buying by the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Mohammed, who is also the Chairman of the Publicity Committee 2019 Elections, said it was an insult on the people of Kano for PDP to attribute the overwhelming victory recorded by the APC in the state to voter inducement.

“The PDP should go down memory lane to recall how Muhammadu Buhari was overwhelmingly voted in Kano during the 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 Presidential elections,” he said.

He pointed out that such an allegation from the PDP was not unexpected, given the setback suffered by the party in the elections.

‘’This clearly indicates PDP’s desperation to discredit the process that has been applauded by local and international observers as one of the best ever organized election in our political history,” the commissioner added.

He, therefore, called on APC members, supporters and the public to disregard the allegation as mere rumour intended to draw sympathy for the electorate who have already made their mind to vote for the APC presidential and National Assembly candidates.

“The PDP will suffer similar humiliation in the forthcoming gubernatorial and state Assembly elections considering the numerous achievements recorded by the administration of Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje in the state,“ he said.

The commissioner thanked the people of the state for voting the APC and appealed to them to come out en masse to vote during the governorship and House of Assembly elections on March 9.

<h1>The Police in Kano confirmed on Friday the death of two persons during Thursday’s clash between supporters of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Kofa in Bebeji area council.</h1>

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kano, while given situation report.

He also said people who sustained various degrees of injuries during the fracas were receiving treatment at various hospitals.

He said no fewer than 20 vehicles were burnt while 18 others were also vandalised during the incident which occurred around 2:00 p:m on Thursday.

According to him, a medical clinic was also burnt in the village as a result of the clash.

The police spokesman said the command had also arrested 20 people in connection with the incident and warned people of the state to desist from acts capable of causing disaffection among residents.

“Investigations have commenced on the matter,” he added.

Reports say supporters of the two political parties clashed when Sen. Rabi’u Kwankwaso and the PDP governorship candidate, Abba Kabir-Yusuf as well as their supporters were traveling to Bebeji town for a final rally.

Kano PDP, APC clash: 2 killed, 20 vehicles burnt

<h1>The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has described the frequent clashes between the supporters of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as unfortunate and worrisome.</h1>

Sanusi spoke on Friday, while addressing newsmen at his Palace in Kano, following the clash that erupted between APC and PDP supporters at a political rally in Bebeji Local Government Area of the state.

He appealed to party supporters and politicians in the state to shun politics of violence and thuggery, to ensure peaceful conduct of the forthcoming general elections.

The monarch called on security agencies in the state to intensify efforts in fishing out the culprits behind the sad incident and ensure that all those found guilty faced the full wrath of the law.

NAN recalls that the Thursday’s clash between APC and PDP supporters in Tofa village, Bebeji, resulted in the death of two people, while many others were injured.

<h1>Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has described as unfortunate the attack on APC supporters in Bebeji Local Government, allegedly by members of Kwankwasiyya group of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).</h1>

The clash was said to have left scores injured while no fewer than 15 vehicles were destroyed.

A statement signed by the state Commissioner of Information, Malam Mohammed Garba, issued to newsmen in Kano, alleged that supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) were attacked on Thursday while holding a special prayer session for peaceful conduct of the general election.

According to the statement, the attack had left some party members dead and others injured.

“The Kwankwasiyya PDP thugs, under the watchful eyes of their leader Rabiu Kwankwaso, were on a campaign rally in the area, brandishing all sorts of deadly weapons, attacked the prayer session.

“The prayer session was organized by the member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Abdulmumini Jibrin-Kofa for peaceful polls,” it said.

It alleged that the attack was the latest in series of such incidents by the Kwankwasiyya group in their alleged attempt to breach the peace in the state.

The statement further said that the governor condoled with the bereaved families and prayed for quick recovery for those injured while calling on security agents to fish out the perpetrators and prosecute them.

Reacting to the allegations, spokesperson to the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, accused the State Government of sponsoring the attack on the APC supporters.

“They are aware that PDP governorship candidate, Abba Kabir-Yusuf and Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso as well as other party supporters were going to the two areas for their final rally.

“But they (APC supporters) decided to hold similar programme in order to cause trouble,” he claimed.

Ganduje condemns Bebeji clash, calls for investigation

<h1>The Coalition of INEC Accredited Domestic Election Observers in Kano State has urged their colleagues who were deployed to the state to observe the rescheduled elections, not to panic, saying the state is safe and peaceful.</h1>

The Chairman of the team, Comrade Friday Maduka, made the call while addressing a pre-election press conference in Kano on Wednesday.

“Having gone round the state, we wish to urge our entire colleagues coming to observe the elections in Kano State and other election duty officials not to be afraid.

“There is no cause for alarm as Kano State is peaceful and safe,” Maduka said.

He said after due consultations with stakeholders in the state, the group had come to believe that the various security agencies had been able to set up a formidable security structure.

“The security structure will guarantee safety of lives and property during and after the elections in the state, hence Kano is safe for the conduct of the forthcoming general elections,” he said.

According to the chairman, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was also resolute, transparent and committed to conducting credible, free and fair elections as it had provided a level playing ground for all the political parties to participate in the polls.

The team leader, however, called on security agencies, particularly the Police, to intensify efforts at addressing political thuggery so as to promote peaceful coexistence in the state.

“Those engaging in such illegal activities should be arrested and be made to face the wrath of the law,” he said.

Elections: Kano is safe, peaceful, says Coalition of Domestic Observers

<h1>The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has directed its members nationwide to reduce petroleum pump price from N145 per litre to N140.</h1>

This was announced in a statement signed by the National President of the association, Elder Chinedu Okworonkwo and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Sunday.

The statement was issued through the Chairman, IPMAN Kano state chapter, Alhaji Bashir Dan-Malam.

Okworonkwo said the marketers were expected to comply with the directive from Feb. 20 to Feb. 25.

He said the decision followed the Saturday’s last-minute postponement of presidential and National Assembly elections by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to him, Nigerians travelled to different places across the country to cast their votes, but to their dismay, the election was shifted to Feb. 23.

“IPMAN was prompted to slash N5 from the N145 per litre official Petroleum pump price in a bid to motivate Nigerians to return to vote again on Feb. 23.

“We urge all our members across Nigeria to immediately reduce the fuel pump price from N145 per litre to N140 per litre.

“This is because of the political situation that hit the country after INEC suddenly announced the postponement of presidential and National Assembly elections after Nigerians were fully prepared.

“We are all aware how Nigerians travelled to different parts of the country in order to exercise their civic duty; unfortunately, they heard a sad news of postponement of the polls,” Okworonkwo said.

He said, “This made us deem it fit to reduce the pump price in order to ease their suffering, and to also motivate them to travel again to exercise their franchise on Feb. 23.”

He, therefore, urged his members nationwide to immediately comply with the directive to enable Nigerians to travel to exercise their civic responsibility.

Okworonkwo maintained that the IPMAN’s decision followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s concern over the election postponement.

“We decided to express our concern over the postponement, as president Buhari expressed concern over the development.

As Buhari apologised to Nigerians to show restraint and return to polling units on Feb. 23, IPMAN also call on the citizens to exercise patience and come out en mass to cast their votes on the rescheduled date,” Okworonkwo said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of IPMAN in Kano state, North West Zonal chairman, Alhaji Bashir Dan-Malam and Bashir Salisu-Tahir have urged their members to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

<h1>The National Harmonised Traders Union (NAHTU) have resolved to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in the Feb. 16 presidential election.</h1>

The President of the union, Alhaji Bature Abdul’aziz, who made the declaration at a news conference in Kano on Wednesday, said the union took the decision after a meeting.

“We have resolved to restate our solidarity for Buhari and recommend that all traders particularly members of the Harmonised Traders Union to vote for President Buhari on Feb. 16,” he said.

The union president said the decision to support Buhari was borne out of the union’s believe that the President was committed to ensuring security and economic development in the country.

According to him, the traders were also satisfied with his achievements so far, especially in efforts toward building a new Nigeria.

Abdul’aziz said this could be seen through efforts in boosting food production, education, health, manufacturing and other sectors.

He said Buhari reelection would ensure the completion of ongoing gigantic projects like Mambilla power and Ajaokuta Steel projects among others.

He, therefore, directed all their members across the country to come out enmasse and vote for President Buhari on Feb. 16.

Harmonised Traders Union declares support for Buhari

<h1>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has concluded training for the 51,000 ad hoc staff recruited for the conduct of forthcoming general election in Kano state.</h1>

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Prof. Riskuwa Arab-Shehu disclosed this on Friday in Kano at a Town Hall Meeting with women groups and gender focused Civil Society Organisations for enhanced women participation in elections.

The event was organised by INEC in collaboration with Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) to educate women on the need to participate in the forthcoming election.

Arab-Riskuwa, who was represented by the Administrative Secretary of the commission, Alhaji Mohamed Sani-Mohammed, said the ad hoc staff, would be deployed to all the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state for the election.

According to him, the commission has also received all the sensitive materials which are being kept at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for safe keep.

“We have completed all necessary arrangements for the election as we have concluded training of ad hoc staff in addition to receiving sensitive materials which are kept at the CBN, “he said

On vote buying, the INEC REC warned the electorate against the illegal act as anybody caught in the act would be punished in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.

“The commission had engaged critical stakeholders like traditional rulers community and religious leaders in sensitising voters on the need to avoid vote buying or acts capable of causing trouble during the election,” he said.

A renowned Civil Society Activist, Malam Ibrahim Waiya, said the meeting was aimed at educating the electorate particularly women on the importance of coming out to participate fully in the election in order to elect credible leaders.

Waiya, who decried low level of women participation in elections, said the meeting would go along way in encouraging them to come out massively and vote.

He called on the participants to extend the message to those who could not attend the event.

He also used the occasion to call on INEC to ensure that the process is fair and transparent.
