Election By Ramatu Garba Kano, March 8, 2019 (NAN) The Kano State Police Command has assured residents of crisis-free Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state on March 9.

The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Wakili, gave the assurance while briefing newsmen in Kano on Friday.

He said that the command has put in place all adequate security measures to ensure that the election is hitch-free.

Wakili appealed to the people to conduct themselves in an orderly and peaceful manner during the exercise.

He called on parents and religious leaders to warn the public to avoid acts capable of breaching the peace in the state.

The Commissioner advised the public, especially the youth, to resist being used to perpetrate trouble, adding that anyone who flout the law would be punished.

No one is above the law, I am ready to sacrifice whatever it takes for peace to reign before, during and after election in the state. We will not allow anybody to break the law and go free, he said.

Wakili appealed to the people of the state to abide by the law and turn out peacefully to vote and cooperate with the police.

There is restriction of movement from 6a.m to 6p.m. You are only allowed to move within your locality where you registered to vote, anybody caught violating the restriction order would be arrested and prosecuted, he said.

The Commissioner also warned all security agencies against partisanship, adding that anyone found wanting would be dealt with.

<h1>The Kano Police Command says it has arrested two suspects in possession of 14 bags of fake specimen ballot papers in Kano metropolis.</h1>

The Command’s Public Relations officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who made the confirmation to newsmen in Kano on Thursday, said the suspects were apprehended around Metro Police Area Command.

He said that the suspects were apprehended on Feb.13, Wednesday evening by some police officers attached to Metro Area Command in the metropolis.

Haruna said during interrogation, the suspects said they came from Jigawa state, adding that the materials were meant for sensitization and orientation purpose.

“The ballot papers are specimen so they are not genuine ballot papers,” he said.

He said investigation was still ongoing as the case had since been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Development (CID).

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abdullahi Haruna, gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Monday.

Haruna said that the command has put in place adequate security measures to ensure that the event was conducted peacefully.

He said adequate personnel had also been posted to strategic locations and different places across the state to ensure security mapping.

Although it has not been officially confirmed but the news about the President coming to Kano on Thursday is widely circulated.

We will deploy our men across the state before, during and after the presidential rally under a conducive atmosphere.

Our men are fully prepared for the President Muhammadu Buhari s visit to ensure peaceful rally and enhance security in the state Haruna explained that the police will be working in synergy with other security agencies to ensure that the event is hitch-free.

NAN reports that President Buhari and other Chieftains of the party are expected to attend the rally in the state.
