<h1>Ahead of the forthcoming governorship and state houses of assembly elections slated for March 9, the PDP in Plateau has accused the APC of “plotting to rig the polls” .</h1>

Chief Damishi Sango, the party’s Chairman in the state, made the allegation at a press conference on Tuesday in Jos.

According to Sango, the APC has “perfected plans” to use the security agents and other critical election stakeholders to rig the polls in its favour.

Sango alleged that the ruling party was plotting to “use the military to intimidate, harass and cause fear among the people in all parts of the state”.

He further alleged that the ruling party was planning to frustrate voters in PDP strongholds by tampering with voting machines and ensuring the late arrival of electoral officials and materials.

Sango, however, described the national elections held on Feb. 23 as “a huge success for the PDP in Plateau”, saying that the opposition won “in spite of the heavy rigging”.

“The Feb. 23 election was a huge success, but intelligence reports available to us indicate that the APC and Gov Simon Lalong are busy working on plans to rig the second exercise.

“As I address you, we have detailed information on the specific local government areas and locations where they intend to intimidate and harass voters at both polling points and collation centres.”

Sango also alleged that civil servants, particularly those on the directorate cadre, as well as principals of secondary schools, were under pressure to deliver their areas to the incumbent governor.

“From our findings, the officials have been ordered to deliver their areas in favour of the incumbent government or risk losing their jobs,” he said.

The chairman appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agents to be neutral and transparent during and after the elections.

“Those saddled with election duties must be transparent and avoid actions capable of truncating the existing peace in Plateau,” he said.

Sango urged Plateau voters to elect Lt. Gen Jeremiah Useni (rtd), for governor and also vote for PDP candidates contesting house of assembly seats across the state.

“I understand the pains of Plateau people over the massive cancellation of their votes in certain areas in the national elections, but I want to appeal to them to put that behind and vote massively for the PDP so as to restore the lost glory of the state,” he said

The chairman appealed to PDP members and supporters to be orderly during the election, adding, however, that they must be alert and be determined to ensure that the right thing was done.

Reacting to the allegations, Mr Pam Dug Gyang, Director-General of the APC Governorship Campaign, described the clams as “totally false”.

“I am not aware of any plan to rig the elections. We have campaigned hard and tried to sell our candidate to the Plateau people. We went to every local government and have embarked on a door-to-door campaign.

“We have done a lot to appeal to the voters and we believe they will vote for us. We have no fear. If we had planned to win by rigging, we shall not campaign this hard.

“Rigging is not in our plans. We do not steal votes. Those who steal votes are those that think that everyone is doing the same thing. We are busy and focused on securing the people’s mandate. We won’t be distracted by such antics,” he told NAN.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has so far declared results of 13 local government areas.

The commission is awaiting the results of other 4 Local government areas.

Prof. Richard Kimbir, the collation officer, declared Atiku of the PDP as winner in 10 LGAs.

Shehu said that the Presidential Candidate of the APC Muhammadu Buhari won in three LGAs

NAN reports that the PDP won in Jos South, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Bassa LGAs.

Other LGAs won by the PDP include, Langtang North, Langtang South, Pankshin, Mikang and Kanke.

Kimbir said the APC won in Jos East, Shendam and Qua’anpan LGAs.

Atiku wins 6 of 8 LGs declared in Plateau

<h1>Ahead of the forthcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Police Command, Plateau says it has deployed 5, 000 personnel to ensure law and order during the two elections.</h1>

Mr Isaac Akinmoyede, Commissioner of Police in the state made the disclosure during news briefing in Jos on Monday.

Akinmoyede said the personnel would be deployed to various polling units, voting points and collation centres in the state.

“We have deployed 5,000 personnel for the forthcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

“This is not to intimidate the members of the public or create anxiety, but ensure peaceful and successful conduct of the election in the state,” he said.

The Commissioner assured that the officers and men deployed would be highly professional and ensure level playing ground for all political parties.

He, however, warned that anyone caught violating electoral rules and breaching public peace would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

“Immediately I assumed duty in this command last Friday, I called meeting of my senior officers, within the command to discuss the forthcoming polls.

“I gave specific instructions that our officers and men on election duty must maintain high professionalism and will give all the political parties a level playing ground.

“But anyone caught trying to violate electoral rules and cause problems on election day will be decisively dealt with,” he said.

Akinmoyede advised Plateau residents to conduct themselves peacefully and desist from of any act that would derail the electoral process.

He assured that the police would ensure safety of election officials, materials, local and international observers and all those who would be on election duty.

2019 Election: Police deploy 5,000 personnel in Plateau

<h1>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Tuesday met with Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), in Plateau, to sensitise them on measures aimed at simplifying the electoral process for them.</h1>

According to Malam Halilu Pai, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in the state, the meeting, held in Jos, was aimed at educating the PWDs on INEC’s level of preparation, as it concerned the PWDs.

“We have put in place all modalities to ensure persons living with disabilities are not disenfranchised on election days.

“You will recall that the commission, in its bid to ensure that persons with disabilities participate fully in the electoral process, launched the framework on access and participation of the PWDs.

“The document, apart from the inclusion of the PWDs in all aspects of the electoral process, also aimed at reducing the barriers they face as voters, aspirants, candidates, party officials as well as staff within the commission.

“The framework is basically to meet the aspirations of citizens in line with international best practice

“So, this forum, therefore, aims at increasing your knowledge about the electoral process and provisions made by the commission for PWDs to participate during elections,” he told the PWDs at the meeting.

The REC explained that the commission had simplified voting process on election days for PWDs.

“We have introduced sign languages and written instructions at polling units to enhance the participation of the hearing impaired and those with poor vision.

“We have also procured magnifying glasses for persons with albinism and have produced tactile ballot as well.

“Generally, we have put everything in place to ensure that the PWDs, persons living with albinism, pregnant women and even the elderly, are given priority on election days,” he said

Pai said that ad hoc staff had been trained and instructed to give special attention to the PWDs on election days.
