<h1>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has released the colours of the ballot papers and boxes for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections on Feb. 16.</h1>

Mr Leo Nkedife, INEC Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Anambra, made the release available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Thursday.

According to the release different colours of boxes and ballot papers will be used for the Presidential, Senatorial and House of Representatives ballots at the polling stations.

The release stated that a red ballot paper and red box would be for the presidential election.

It also indicated that a black ballot paper and black box would be for senatorial elections.

It further stated that green ballot paper and green box would be for House of Representatives.

The release urged the electorate to increase their knowledge concerning the Feb. 16 elections.

<h1>Mr Godwin Ezeemo , a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on electorates in the state to be politically active by voting for candidates of the party during the general elections.</h1>

Ezeemo made the call in Awka on Monday during a rally organized by the party to solicit for votes from electorate.

The PDP chieftain explained that voting by the electorates was a civic responsibility that sustained democracy in any society.

“Voting in any election is a national service. I call on all eligible voters who are yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to do so before the deadline and those with their own to come out and vote.

“Do not stay at home and later condemn the government in power. Be politically active and shun the habit of being apolitical during electioneering period.

“Your active participation pays more than being lukewarm.

“The power to elect quality leaders or recall non performing leader is now and it is dependent on the electorate, so the time to act to save Nigeria from collapsing is now,’’ Ezeemo said.

In her contribution, Prof. Stella Okunna, an electorate at the event, said that time has come for voters to take their future in their hands by voting wisely to save the nation from collapsing.

Okunna said that any government that had interest of the people should be voted and urged all electorates to get their PVCs to be part of the positive change in governance.

Also speaking, Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, a PDP faithful appealed to voters in the state to come out en-mass to cast their vote for PDP because the party had a programme that would rejuvenate the nation and turned its economic fortunes positively again.

“Do not make the mistake of your lives by voting for a party that does not have your interest. PDP is the answer,’’ he said.

Mr Okechukwu Nzeako a PDP candidate for Njikoka 2 State Constituency in Anambra House of Assembly, urged the voters to return PDP back to power.

He said that PDP was the only political party with a human friendly manifesto and urged the voters to collect their PVCs and elect their preferred candidates.

Mr Valentine Ayika, another PDP candidate vying for Njikoka/Anaocha/Dunukofia Federal Constituency urged voters to cast their votes for PDP for lasting progress.

“PDP had managed the affairs of the country for 16 years and the progress achieved during their era cannot be compared to what is being experienced in the country today,’’ he said.

He urged the electorates to avoid the mistake of voting another party that would draw back the progress of the country.

PDP urges electorates to shun apathy, exercise civic duty

<h1>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has recruited and trained 25,000 ad-hoc staff for the conduct of the general elections in Anambra.</h1>

Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) made the disclosure while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Wednesday.

The REC said that Anambra recorded the highest number of voters in the country adding that the state moved from 1.9 million voters registered in 2015 to about 2.5 million in 2019.

He urged eligible voters in the state to come out en-masse to vote for candidates of their choice during the elections as the commission had set adequate logistics in motion to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

Orji appealed to those who registered during the voter registration but were yet to collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to do so at their various Local Government Areas before February 9.

He reminded voters that their PVCs were the only tool at their disposal to elect quality leaders and representatives who took decisions that affected their lives and as such should see the electoral process as a must partake.

"The future and development of the present and upcoming generations lies solely in the hands of the electorates of today and is an assignment not good to toil with," he said

Orji said that the commission was highly determined to move steps above its last record in 2015 and urged electorates to do their part in following the electoral process religiously.

"We are truly ready to defend our image by standing on all due processes and giving equal fair playing ground to all participants," orji said .

He said that more sensitisation was being done to enlighten the people of their responsibility during the electioneering process as well as INECs readiness to conduct peaceful and violent free elections.

Orji said advocacy visit was part of measures in place by the commission to reach out to opinion leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths with the aim of sensitizing and educating the people on elections matters.

He said the commission was appreciative of criticisms and advice received in previous elections from both stakeholders and international observers that helped the commission in repositioning the countrys electoral body.

<h1>The Anambra Government says its rejection of the Ohaneze Ndigbos endorsement of Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has nothing to do with politics or Mr Peter Obi.</h1>

The Anambra Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C-Don Adinuba made the clarification at a press briefing in Awka on Monday.

He said that the clarification was necessitated by the story making round the media and instigated by the group that the state rejected the endorsement of Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, because of his running mate, Obi.

He said that the state had not in any way made reference to Obi directly or indirectly in any of its interviews on the issue.

"The government and people of the state are disheartened by decisions of Ohaneze to desecrate the memory of Zik which coincided with the date the endorsement was made," the commissioner said.

He said that efforts were made to reach the Leadership of Ohaneze to shift their time to 7pm as it was not fair to hold the meeting by 10am when they knew the President was visiting the state.

The commissioner said that the appeal of change of time was to give Anambra delegation, the opportunity to partake in the meeting but they hurriedly held the meeting scheming out Ebonyi and Anambra.

Adinuba said that the Obiano government was not bothered about who the Igbo Apex Social Cultural group pitched tent with, rather the timing of their meeting coincided with President Muhammadu Buharis visit to the state.

Adinuba said that the Ohaneze leadership led by Chief Nnia Nwodo should have taken into consideration that Zik of Africa was being honoured on the same day of their meeting.

Wisdom should have been applied by the leaders to give honour to whom, it is due, he said.

He said that Ohanaez Ndigbo was supposed to be part of the delegation receiving the President on such a remarkable day.

He pointed out that for 23 years, many administrations had come and gone without giving due consideration to completing the mausoleum and on the day of its commissioning, ohanaeze desecrated the memory of a worthy son of Igboland.

The act is considered a sacrilege or a sabotage, Zik is the only patron of the group and he was insulted by his own, so sad, he said.

Adinuba described the action of the Chief Nnia Nwodo led Ohanaeze Ndigbo group as a "political fraud saying that Ohanaeze should not be political and should stop endorsing political candidates."

He said that Ohaneze had in the past endorsed Jonathan, Shagari and they never won the elections, so they should stop.

In a swift reaction, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene , President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Anambra said that the reactions of the state government was not reasonable.

He said in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that at first instance, the group was not in the know about the Presidents visit and its timetable.

Okeke-Ogene said that the group had observed all its due process in holding meetings from Abuja, Enugu and concluded its program.

He said that the meeting was statutory and would not have been cancelled for nothing and said that they honoured the request of time change from 10 am to 4pm.

He said that the group had been endorsing candidates before now like other geopolitical zones.

We endorsed Obiano and urged that the North should complete their tenure before going to South, he said.

Okeke-Ogene said that Obiano was enjoying the endorsement of Ohaneze ndi Igbo and wondered what changed.

Also, Chief Chris Eluemunoh, the immediate past President of Ohanaeze said that the group was desecrated by the state government for not involving such important group in a special visit like that.

He said that at their level, nobody from the group would attend any function not invited and said that political leaders should learn how to respect their foundation.
