The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bayelsa has 24 seats in the assembly, and only 16 have so far been declared.

Mr Wilfred Ifogah, INEC Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity in the state, who announced this in Yenagoa on Monday, said there were hitches in Brass Constituency 1, where the election was declared inconclusive.

Ifogah said that out of the 24 seats in the state assembly, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won in 12 while the All Progressive Congress (APC) secured four seats.

“The Brass Constituency 1, is inconclusive and a new date will be fixed when plans are concluded.

“Results of seven constituencies including Ogbia I, II and III as well as Southern Ijaw constituencies I, II, III and IV, are still being awaited by the commission,’’ he said.

APC won in Brass II, polling 10,958 votes to defeat PDP that got 6,833 while in Nembe II, APC got 8,167 votes to defeat PDP that polled 401 votes.

Also in Nembe III, APC polled 10,906 votes as against 302 votes recorded by PDP and in Ekeremor II, APC also polled 17,428 to defeat PDP that got 11,184 votes.

The PDP polled 6,551 to defeat APC that got 2,142 in Brass Constituency III while In Nembe 1, PDP also polled 14,941 to defeat APC that polled 1,675 votes.

Other places where the PDP won were Kolokuma/Opokuma I, where it polled 7,478 to defeat APC that got 3805, and Kolokuma/Opokuma II, where the party scored 5,693 as against APC’s 2,697 votes.

In Yenagoa I, PDP polled 26,012 to defeat APC that got 1,976 votes while in Yenagoa II ,PDP got 6,345 while APC scored 2,998 votes.

PDP also won in Yenagoa 111 with 3,674 as against APC’s 974 votes and in Ekeremor I, PDP polled 7,239 to defeat APC that garnered 3,945 votes.

Mr Monday Udoh, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state disclosed this at a news conference in Yenagoa on Wednesday.

Udoh, however, failed to disclose specifically how the recovered card readers were found.

“Actually the missing card reader are 69 but as at this morning, (Wednesday), we have recovered 20; only 49 are still missing.

“As it is now, the state House of Assembly election of March 9, will not hold in wards and units where we can not recover the card readers as directed by the commission.

“I urge those in possession of the remaining 49 card readers to return them to avoid facing the full wrath of law,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the card readers were stolen in wards and polling units in five Local Governments Areas (LGAs) of the state -Brass, Sagbama, Southern-Ijaw, Nembe and Yenagoa.

On the March 9 elections, Udoh assured that it would be orderly in the interest of the people of Bayelsa and Nigerians at large.

“After voting, there will be no collation of results at the INEC headquarters here in Yenagoa, all collation will be done at constituencies headquartres, it will start from the presiding officer in the unit to ward collation officers and then the returning officers in all the constituencies headquartres.

“We have made all arrangements to ensure that there will be not malfunction of card readers again, we have taken care of all the logistical problems, so that we don’t experience those lapses again as we had on Feb. 23,” he said.

INEC recovers 20 card readers, 49 still missing in Bayelsa

<h1>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bayelsa, has appealed to those in possession of its 63 missing card readers to return them before Saturday’s elections.</h1>

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that INEC on Monday announced that 63 smart card readers used during the Feb. 23 President and National Assembly elections were missing.

Mr Wilfred Ifogah, Head of Department, INEC Voter Education and Publicity, told NAN on Tuesday that the affected local government areas where the cards were used include Brass, Sagbama, Southern-Ijaw, Nembe and Yenagoa.

Ifogah said that in Brass Ward 6, Unit 19, one smart card reader was missing, 24 missed in Nembe Wards 1, 4, 12 and 13, while 24 missed in Southern-Ijaw, Wards 1, 2, 3, 12 and 15.

“Eight card readers are missing in Sagbama Ward 1, Unit 5 and Ward 6 Unit 3, while in Yenagoa six are also missing in Wards 1, 11 and 16.

“Yes, about 63 card readers are missing. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Monday Udom, has issued a statement that those involved should return them to INEC on or before Wednesday,’’ he said.

Ifogah said that the commissioner has assured that those in possession of the card readers would not be victimised if they return the items.

<h1>The Presidential Candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Muhammadu Buhari, has recorded victory in two of the seven Local Government Areas (LGA) of Bayelsa.</h1>

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two LGAs are Nembe and Southern-Ijaw as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

NAN reports that the state has eight LGAs, but seven have so far been announced by INEC.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has won in the five council areas.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Zana Akpagbo, announced on Tuesday in Yenagoa that APC polled 31, 811 votes to defeat PDP, who polled 7, 167 votes in Nembe LGA.

In Southern-Ijaw, APC also polled 47, 627 as against 41, 629 scored by the PDP in the area.

In Ekeremor LGA, PDP scored 21, 857 to defeat APC that got 9, 097. Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, PDP polled 16, 040 to defeat APC, that got 3, 938 votes while in Yenagoa LGA, PDP got 37,676 votes defeating APC with 7, 483.

In Brass LG, PDP polled 15,936, while APC scored 5,913 and in Sagbama LG PDP had 30,122 votes to defeat the APC with 7,949 votes.

Results from the remaining Ogbia local government area of the state, where former President Goodluck Jonathan hails from, are yet to be collated.

Buhari wins 2 LGAs in Bayelsa, Atiku leads with 7

<h1>The Bayelsa Government has said that it spent less than N60 billion on its airport project and not N120 billion being alleged by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri.</h1>

Gov. Seriake Dickson who made the clarification on Thursday in Yenagoa, said the amount spent on the project was minimal, compared to the figure mentioned by the minister.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Lokpobiri had on February 12, during the APC presidential campaign rally in Bayelsa, alleged that Dickson spent N120 billion on the airport project.

“Let me clarify to the general public on the comments by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Heineken Lokpobiri, that we have spent over N120 billion on our airport project.

“I must tell you, the project gulped less than N60 billion and not what the minister said during President Buhari’s visit to the state,’’ he stated.

NAN reports that the inaugural flight is expected to land at the airport at the time of filing this report as part of activities marking Gov. Dickson’s seventh year in office.

On achievements so far recorded by his administration, the governor said he was satisfied, especially about youth empowerment, health facilities, education and other related development for his people.

“We are happy with the completion of Nembe road, and the Sagbama-Ekeremor road which is ongoing as well as Oporoma road and lots of modern schools all over the state,” he said.

Dickson, who also spoke on Saturday and March 2 general elections, urged the electorate to be mindful of the electoral code of conduct.

“Let me remind our people that every citizen has the duty and right to come out and be law-abiding and cast his or her vote because it is their civic obligation.

“Come out and vote the candidate of your choice. Vote and stay out of trouble that we have been campaigning against.

“Security operatives must be focused on their duty and responsibility; discharge your duty according to the code of conduct and law of the land,’’ the governor added.
