A bank is a place where people mainly withdraw and deposit money. Banks also provide various financial services for its customers. Banking halls, therefore, play host to all kinds of people, who have different needs and intentions, every day. This article looks at the five different people groupings you are likely to observe in a typical Nigerian banking hall.

This group of people are usually cash depositors. They only visit the bank when they have some cash to deposit. More often than not, they have this aura of confidence – and sometimes arrogance – as they approach the counter. They are always in a hurry. I think they believe they will be properly and promptly attended to because their cash is apparently needed in the bank. In some cases, these persons join the Professional Complainers (more below) to complain loudly when they do not get immediate attention.

Almost everyone has met a member of this particular group of people. Their incessant questions about everything and anything can easily annoy you. The basic nature of their questions will make you value your education. They usually experience difficulty in filling dates and writing amounts in words. Some of them come to the bank with a more educated person to help them with the whole process. You can spot them filling and discarding multiple tellers before heading for the counter.

There are those who think the banking hall is a StreetSide market. They often come with people they know or strike up conversations with anyone as soon they get into the bank. Worse still, they are often very restless and impatient: they pace about, receiving calls loudly and keep asking the banking staff the same set of questions. They can be useful because they monitor the queues and ensure no jumping occurs.

This group of persons make their visit to banking halls an opportunity to vent about everything they consider bad about the bank. At times, they would threaten to withdraw all their monies from the bank and close down the account. They nag consistently until people plead with them to exercise patience. Interestingly, they seldom carry out their threats and may remain loyal customers for long.

We have all met these people at one point or the other. These people never go to the bank with pens. Instead, they borrow pens from other customers. They are always confident that someone at the bank must have a pen. You may see them moving from one customer to another asking for a pen. Some of them cause confusion by lending other Pen Borrowers the pen they borrowed from someone else or by forgetting who they collected the pen from.

Besides the above groupings, there are those who mind their business when they visit the bank. They fill their forms with their own pens, silently follow the queues, and hardly make any sustained chit-chat all through. These are the ‘normal’ ones.

5 types of people you will meet in a typical Nigerian banking hall

The October 2020 #EndSARS protests started out in Lagos. As with previous protests against SARS activities, not many people expected a large turnout. Days later it transformed into a nationwide protest, holding in several states of the federation. It also evolved into a general demand for an end to bad leadership in the country.

On October 20, 2020, men of the Nigerian Army massacred unarmed protesters singing the National Anthem and waving the Nigerian flag at the Lekki Toll gate, Lagos. Lives were lost and many other protesters sustained injured. It is a sad event that saw the end of the peaceful nature of the protests across the country.

While the ultimate purpose of the #EndSARS protests may not have been achieved, yet, there are some notable takeaways from this collective demand to #EndSARS and bring change to Nigeria. Here are four of them:

<h3>1. Nigerians Are Mostly Peaceful People.</h3>

The #EndSARS protests proved beyond doubt that Nigerians are peaceful people. Evidence shows that the protests were peaceful until the government started tampering with the whole process by infiltrating thugs into it. None of the actual protest locations witnessed damage or violence by the protesters.

Secondly, the country is not hard to govern. Sixty years of bad leadership has convinced us that the country is difficult to lead. 60 years of independence; yet the country still has its people in abject poverty. However, it is clear Nigerians only require accountability and the way the leaders of the #EndSARS protests conducted their activities showed that accountability is not rocket science.

<h3>3. Nigerians are Good People Broken by Bad Leadership.</h3>

Nigerians are largely good people. However, they have been broken by bad leadership. During the #EndSARS protests, there were many cases of protesters returning missing items, donating money to help people that they did not know before the protests and generally looking out for each other.

<h3>4. With Sensitization, Nigeria Can change in 2023</h3>

Nigerians can change Nigeria in 2023 by building on the #EndSARS protests which gathered momentum due to the wide usage of social media, Twitter especially.&nbsp;The way forward is for everyone to utilize this effective social media to sensitize fellow Nigerians. People must be encouraged to vote leaders with proven integrity and refused to be moved by financial inducements. If this is done, by 2023, everyone will be ready to vote for a credible leader who is not above 55 years old.

Even though the physical protests have ended in most parts of Nigeria, the zeal of the people has not been quenched and the labor of the #EndSARS protesters will not be in vain. October 2020 will remain a remarkable month in the history of Nigeria, for more reasons than one.

Apart from the country marked its diamond independence jubilee, the month has also become a significant one for many, especially the youths. It is the month Nigerians marched together demanding an end to police brutality. For days, Nigerians have been protesting against the brutality of members of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a department of the Nigerian Police Force. They are demanding that the government puts an end to their operations. This article identifies five kinds of people you are likely to meet at the protests.

This group of persons comes prepared for the protest. They stand their ground whenever they are being harassed by security operatives. You will see them shouting #EndSARS, participating in activities like cleaning up, carrying posters and banners, giving speeches &nbsp;and being helpful to the cause in some way. They are the ones keeping the vision of the protests alive.

This group of persons are out to cover the protests as self-appointed freelance journalists. Though a part of the protest, they put more effort in taking pictures and making videos and sharing to different platforms. If not for them, we wouldn’t know much about the protests.

Members of this group do not joke with the food shared at the protests. They are there for the food and the food only, and they will try to eat and drink everything. You may hear them moaning that the quality or quantity of food they got has not adequately rewarded their agitations.

There are people who believe the protests is an avenue to catch fun. It seems the thought of being on the streets alone gives them joy and energy. They will dance whether there is music or not, run round excitedly and generally make themselves loud. You may also see them trying to appear on the media one way or another. Without them, the atmosphere will be dull: they bring the ginger.

These are the Judases amongst the twelve disciples whose only mission is to take advantage of the situation to act inappropriately towards the female folk. You will see them touching the buttocks or breasts of the women. A few of them have gotten just beatings for this.

There are also the trouble makers (like the one in the header image), hired to disrupt the protests, and those there to steal from inspecting protesters.

As the #EndSARS protests rage on, it is becoming clearer that not all protesters are out on the streets for the same reason.
