<h1>Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has warned troublemakers to stay away from the state.</h1>

He said his administration would not allow brigandage return to the state

Ajimobi told newsmen in his office on Monday night that the recent violent actions embarked upon by some hoodlums in the state would not be condoned.

The governor was reacting to the recent violence in the state which also led to the death of Rep. Temitope Olatoye (ADP-Akinyele/Lagelu).

He said that the administration’s tenure would expire on May 29 and that it would not relent in ensuring the security of lives and property.

“This administration’s tenure ends on May 29. Between now and that time, we will ensure peace and tranquility which is the hallmark of our administration.

“It was eight years of peace, security, safety and development. We won’t allow Oyo State return to the days of brigandage. This is antithetical to development,” he said.

Ajimobi urged the governor-elect, Mr Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party, to follow the path of peace and encourage people.

“Even if we have done bad things in some areas, we have done many good things that outweighed those supposed bad things.

“The fact that we lost in the election does not mean we should throw away the baby with the bath water.

“I think there are good things he can learn from us and good things we will be ready to give him to take from. And for the bad ones, let him adjust and improve on them,” Ajimobi said.

He said that as a democrat, one must congratulate those who won and encourage those who lost to accept the loss.

The governor however, urged those who felt cheated and who had their facts to pursue such through legal means.

Ajimobi congratulated all those who won in the elections and wished them God’s protection and wisdom through their tenure.

The Police Command in Oyo State on Sunday cautioned residents who were spreading falsehood and creating unnecessary tension in the state to stop.

The command had enjoined residents to go about their businesses and activities as the police would not condone any form of violence in the state.

<h1>The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State says People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s allegation that Gov. Abiola Ajimobi intends to cause mayhem during Saturday’s election is a figment of the opposition’s puerile imagination.</h1>

The APC Publicity Secretary in Oyo State, Dr Azeez Olatunde, said this in a statement in Ibadan on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the PDP in the state had alleged that the APC and Ajimobi were planning to cause unrest during the election using transport union members.

“Our attention has been drawn to an allegation by the PDP that the governor is planning to use fake police and NURTW members to cause unrest in the state.

“We like to state categorically that this allegation is a figment of their puerile imagination and a product of hallucination,” the party said.

The APC said that everyone in the state knows that Ajimobi stood for peace and would not trade it for anything.

It said that Nigerians could not forget in a hurry the violent years of PDP and the ruins it caused which was gradually being salvaged by the APC administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The APC warned that it would resist election rigging and vote buying plans of the PDP in the gubernatorial election, stating that it won’t allow PDP to turn Oyo State into a macro finance bank.

“We wouldn’t have responded to PDP hallucinatory statements since the people know the party is synonymous with violence, maladministration, financial recklessness and mudslinging.

“With their rejection by Nigerians in the Feb. 23 election, we assumed that they would have changed their ways.

“But like the saying goes, old habits die hard. The habit of PDP to peddle falsehood is their second nature. Their antics to get to Oyo seat of power will be another futile effort.

“The electorates know them, they know how they ruined the country’s economy and perpetrated a lot of violence in Oyo State and across the country,” it said.

It said that the peace currently enjoyed in the state was elusive during the ruling years of PDP, saying it is only a party like PDP that would lay the foundation of peace and destroy same with its hands.

The APC said that the present administration in the state was people oriented and has vowed to sustain peace, safety and security that would bring evident development, growth and progress to the state.

It warned the leaders of PDP to steer clear of the state, saying the state’s fund could not be used to fund the PDP.

<h1>Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has congratulated Dr Kola Balogun of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who defeated him in the senatorial election.</h1>

This was contained in a statement signed by Ajimobi’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr Bolaji Tunji, in Ibadan on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Wole Akinsola, had declared Balogun winner of the Oyo South Senatorial election having polled 105,720 votes against Ajimobi 92,218 votes.

Ajimobi, who described the loss of the seat as unfortunate, added that no sacrifice was too much for a leader to make.

“The results of the Oyo South Senatorial District election have been released by INEC indicating that I lost to the PDP Candidate.

“I hereby accept the result as announced. Although there were a number of grievous infractions and established electoral malpractices, I have decided to let go in the interest of peace.

“I, therefore, congratulate the declared winner, Dr Kola Balogun and our APC Senators-elect, Sen. Abdulfatai Buhari and Teslim Folarin.

“If I lose the ticket and the party was able to gain, then it is nothing to feel sad about. APC has done well but we can always do better.

“If we won two out of the three Senatorial seats and we picked nine out of 14 federal constituency seats, then we should congratulate ourselves,” he said.

The governor expressed appreciation to the people of the state for their peaceful conduct and turnout during the elections.

Ajimobi said that the people of the state have shown their love for the APC by voting massively for President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC candidates in the elections.

He said that the APC would be victorious also in the presidential poll from the results released so far nationwide.

“We appreciate our people for coming out last Saturday, which led to APC winning two out of the three Senatorial and nine out of the 14 Federal Constituency seats in the state.

“The victory has shown the unassailable leadership of the APC in Oyo State.

“It has also shown that our people are appreciative of the developmental strides of the APC in the state and the country at large.

“We have taken Oyo State to an unprecedented level in terms of massive infrastructural renewal. Most importantly, we have ensured peace in the state,” he said.

Ajimobi enjoined all APC members to be more prepared for the March 9 governorship election, stressing that the battle was not over yet.

“With the impressive results we currently have, we should proudly go forth with greater sense of confidence and unity of purpose.

“Let us work together to ensure victory for our governorship candidate, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and all our candidates for the House of Assembly,” he said.

Ajimobi emphasized that the loss of Oyo South Senatorial seat would not deter him from his firm resolve and that of the APC to work for the party’s victory in the governorship election.

“To the teeming members and supporters of our party who came out in their thousands to show their preference for the APC, I thank you.

“I urge you to keep the faith especially as we look forward to the governorship and the House of Assembly elections,” he said.
