<h1>The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared a state of emergency on environmental, sanitation and traffic management matters in the state.</h1>

Sanwo-Olu declared this while signing the first executive order of refuse management, traffic management and public works on Thursday at the Lagos House, Alausa.

This, according to the Governor, will start the process of restoring stability and a culture of accountability in which all the citizens become active stakeholders in bringing about the necessary changes.

“As from the date of this order, there shall be zero tolerance for environmental abuse, including illegal and indiscriminate dumping of refuse, construction on drainage points and setbacks,” he said.

According to him, all LASTMA officials shall effectively carry out their functions by ensuring strict enforcement and compliance with all extant traffic rules and regulations.

He said the LASTMA officials would immediately begin work on a shift basis in which road and traffic management operations would be on till 11 pm on a daily basis.

Sanwo-Olu said that the Lagos State Public Works Corporation would immediately commence the identification and repairs of all potholes and bad roads within the state.

He also said provisions of the order would extend to all enforcement agencies in the state, in maintaining law and order for the collective good of the citizens.

“I expect the fullest level of compliance with this order and will look to the various heads of ministries, departments and agencies to give full force and effect to the orders therein contained and to take responsibility for any failure,” he said.

<h1>Chief Salis Owolabi, governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Lagos State in the March 9 election, on Monday rejected the result of the poll declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).</h1>

Salis, at a news conference, said the election was marred with ‘multiple voting, intimidation, collation fraud’, among others.

Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner of the election by the Returning Officer of INEC in the state, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede.

He polled a total of 739,445 votes, while his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Jimi Agbaje, got 206,141 votes.

Salis polled a total of 3,370 votes in the election.

“I am not accepting the result of the governorship election. It is complete fraud.

“This is not an election and I totally reject it.A lot of miscounting was done against AD; they even tried to relegate us by putting us in the sixth position.

“I do not believe Sanwo-Olu won a clear contest,” Salis said.

He vowed to challenge the outcome at the election tribunal, expressing optimism of getting justice.

“I am going to court. I have overwhelming evidence and will get lawyers that handle election matters to look into these irregularities committed against my party in the just-concluded election.

“It is very easy to win the case when you have enough evidence,” Salis said.

He, however, said in spite of all that had happened, he would still remain relevant politically and not relent in empowering the masses.

Lagos Guber: AD candidate rejects result, says ‘I am going to court’

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan, made the disclosure in a statement in Lagos.

Bamigbetan decried reports currently circulating on social media platforms suggesting that Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode had declared Friday as public holiday to enable residents prepare for the March 9 Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

He restated that all public and private schools in the state were expected to proceed on the 2nd mid-term break on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 March, as earlier announced by the state’s Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule.

According to him, all public and private schools will resume academic activities on Monday, March 11, in accordance with the revised school calendar for the 2018/2019 academic year.

The Lagos State Government says there no public holiday on Friday, March 8, advising all civil servants to be at their various duty posts.

<h1>Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Wednesday congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for their resounding success in the presidential election.</h1>

Ambode, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Habib Aruna, said it was a victory well deserved.

He said it was not just a confirmation of the people’s love for President Buhari, but an attestation that Nigerians were happy with the progress the Federal Government had made in the last four years.

President Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was in the early hours of Wednesday declared winner by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

Buhari polled a total of 15,191,847 to defeat his closest rival , former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got a total of 11, 262,978.

Ambode said: “Let me join millions of our loyal party faithful in the state and across the country to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for their resounding victory at last Saturday’s polls.

“This is indeed a historic moment because Nigerians have used their votes to show Mr President that they are happy with the progress the country has made on several sectors of the polity.

“This is a victory for democracy; it is a victory for good governance and a clear statement from Nigerians that they are ready to move to the next level with President Muhammadu Buhari.”

He expressed confidence that the Buhari-led administration would consolidate on the achievements of the last four years and justify the renewal of his mandate by millions of Nigerians at the polls.

“This is a threshold of our political history. I urge Nigerians to rally round the Federal Government and support the drive to take the nation to the next level,” Ambode said.

He also commended Lagos residents for coming out in thousands and for being peaceful and orderly throughout the period of the elections.

The governor congratulated candidates of the party in the National Assembly elections who emerged victorious.

He said that with APC in the majority in both chambers, President Buhari would get the needed support from the legislative arm of government to transform Nigeria for good.

<h1>Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has urged residents to conduct themselves peacefully at the polling units and shun any act of violence or misconduct that could threaten peace of the state.</h1>

Ambode gave the advice on Wednesday in Lagos, saying that the nation was on a threshold of history as the outcome of the elections would be a defining moment in Nigeria’s political and economic landscape.

He urged residents to see the election as one that they must not sit on the fence, but come out to exercise their franchise albeit in a peaceful and orderly manner, devoid of rancour and all forms of electoral violence.

“As we prepare for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, I appeal to every Lagosian to ensure that the peace we have enjoyed in the last four years in the state is replicated across all the polling units and voting centres on Saturday.

“Your PVC is your voice and it is what you will need to cast your vote.

“I urge you to come out, be orderly, take your place on the queue and avoid any form of violence that can mar the process or put the lives of our peace loving citizens at risk,” he said.

Ambode said that he would be cast his vote for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Presidential and all the National Assembly elections.

According to him, Lagos in the last four years had benefitted immensely from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

He listed some of the key capital projects which the state had initiated with the support of the Federal Government.

According to him, they include the release of Oshodi-Muritala Muhammed Airport Road for reconstruction; release of land space in Oshodi for the construction of the interchange and terminus.

Others were the release of Oshodi-Abule Egba lane for BRT and the release of the Presidential Lodge, Marina for the Lagos History Centre project; the ongoing road infrastructure works in Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Badagry-Seme and Ikorodu axis.

Ambode said these were the intervention projects that President Buhari expeditiously approved to be carried out in the state.

“The fact is that since 1999, Lagos has never benefitted from the Federal Government under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government, the way it has benefited in the last three and half years.

“Most of the interventions that we have carried out have made life more meaningful to the average resident of the state.

“Beyond reasonable doubt, President Buhari has shown his love for Lagos and under his administration, Lagos has thrived.

“It is important that we continue on this trajectory for another four years,” Ambode said.
