Actress to Star in Trevor Noah Biopic "Born a Crime"

Lupita Nyong’o has signed on to star in the film adaptation of Trevor Noah’s bestselling autobiography,

Nyong'o took to Twitter to announce that she will star in and produce the biopic.

Nyong’o will star in the  biopic as the mother of the host of “The Daily Show With,"  Patricia, who played an important role in Noah's formative years.

Patriciagrew up in a hut with 14 occupants and took her son to three churches every Sunday, a prayer meeting on Tuesday, Bible study on Wednesday, and youth church on Thursday.

She was shot in the head by his stepfather while returning from a church service in 2009, but survived.

"Born a Crime" was released in 2016 and focuses on Noah growing up in post-apartheid South Africa as the son of a white father and black mother.

Since its release, the book has spent 26 weeks on the bestseller list and has won the James Thurber Prize for American Humor and two NAACP Image Awards.

Nyong’o, who won an Oscar in 2014 for "12 Years a Slave," is currently being praised for her role in "Black Panther" as Nakia, the love interest of King T’Challa and a mighty warrior.

She is also set to produce and star in the film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s 'Americanah,' which will be scripted by her "Black Panther"co-star, Danai Gurira.
