This was revealed in a statement by the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation on Tuesday, December 9.
The archbishop’s daughter and director of the foundation, Mpho Tutu stated that her father was originally meant to attend a meeting of Nobel Peace Prize laureates in Rome this week but had to shelve his plans for the purpose of the treatment.
The meeting was earlier scheduled to hold in South Africa but had to be shifted to Rome after South African authorities refused to grant a visa to the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader.
